3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, 7.5%. The aroma has a little aroma hop to begin with, but quickly turns into coffee and roasted barley notes. Almost black colour, clear reddish shine. Big light brown head, fairly stable. The flavour starts off nicely roasted. Then comes some sweet liquorice, some alcohol, a good bitterness. A little creamy flavour as well. A good beer, but a little rough on the alcohol.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled 3/5/2012. Pours fairly pitch black color with a nice 1-2 finger fairly dense tn head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big milk chocolate, caramel, coffee, roasted malt, cream, toast, biscuit, and slight herbal hops. Very nice aromas with great strength and balance. Taste of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, coffee, cream, toast, light pine, and citrus. Some decent pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, caramel, cream, and toast on the finish for a bit. Very nice balance of roasted flavors with the lactose; and a good bitterness/sweetness balance gives this zero cloying sweetness. Medium carbonation and body; with a nice creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming after the finish. Overall this is a very nice milk stout. Nice robust and balanced flavors; and quite smooth to drink. Maybe a bit too much hop character for a milk stout, but a damn good offering nonetheless.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours a dark dark brown, not quite jet black, but has medium brown highlights with decent clarity with a minor amount of white skim-like foam. Aroma is sweet, maybe a bit of roast and some light candy-like sweetness. As dark as this beer appears, the roast element is definitely not as prevalent as one would think. Taste is sugary sweet up front, with the definite and undeniably unique sweetness given from lactose sugar. Secondary to the sweetness is that of a cup of cold brewed coffee without any astringency. Body has a silken like texture with a moderate amount of carbonation. As the glass became more empty we noticed that it took on an almost soda-pop like texture where the carbonation along with the sweetness seemed to overwhelm. Alcohol is well hidden. Nice to try, but I think I would get sick of this one fast.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle. Tasty and smooth, yet with decent strength and not lactic sweet. Pours with a light and fluffy cream head, and a deep deep brown, non oily body. Light lactic cream sugars, roasted malts, minor cocoa, and light coffee bean in the aroma, and without appreciable hop. The body is tangy sweet, moderately carbonated, and medium thick. It becomes slightly more creamy towards the finish and has an appropriate amount of pop. Milky sweet up front, then roasted cocoa malt, light coffee/mocha, and minor earth. Pretty simple overall, but a good body. This was likable.
