4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Appearance: velvety near-black, with a short, creamy, light tan head and some lacing. Aroma: melted milk chocolate, lightly toasted brown bread, cocoa powder, vanilla, and cream. Taste: sweet dark chocolate and vanilla, with a hint of crème fraiche at the end. Finish: smooth, creamy, with lingering delicately sweet milk and dark chocolate notes. Notes: A lot of milk stouts overdo the lactose, leaving a slightly unpleasant sour-ish twang. In this, the lactose was perfectly subdued, giving just enough body and sweetness without that off note. In essence, this beer was like drinking a dark chocolate jello pudding cup. Absolutely phenomenal. I’d drink this every day.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark chocolate aroma. Black color with a thin head. Smooth and sweet as it warmed up a bit, replaced by a coffee bitterness later on.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle: Pours dark black wtih a thin tan head. Aroma of caramel and chocolate malts, herbal hops and sweet dough. Taste is sweet on the front and nice and bitter on the finish but not too heavy in either direction. Smooth on the palate, just a bit thin for a big stout. Prett good but nowhere near as interesting as the 2X IPA.

Getting some coffee and choclate hints in the nose....pours a nice ddep black. Hint of fruit and sweetness, most likely from the milk sugar and some malt. Smooth on the palate. Nice beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Not bad looking, a little brown leaks into the blackness, head was about two fingers and dissipated into a sheen, leaving ok lace.
Nose: Gentle roasty malts, coffee, sweet milk chocolate.
Taste: definitely tasting the sweet milk stout character, notes of coffee and chocolate, burnt and roasted malts, toasted bread, a little nuts.
Body is slick, sweet, and pretty thick, pretty good for a milk stout.
Once again Southern Tier has brewed a beer that I like. This may not be world class but it’s damn tasty and I’m glad I have a whole sixer of it. I will definitely buy it again.
