COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

355 ml bottle.
Pours a black colour with a beautiful creamy head. Aroma is very smooth with notes of roasted malts, cream and some fruitiness. Smooth and rich flavour of roasted malts, lactose, bitter hops and strong milk chocolate. Medium bodied, soft carbonation and a smooth, roasty and creamy finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Very enjoyable.

355ml bottle

Pours pitch black with a white creamy head. Aroma of roasted and toasty malts, some milky notes, chocolate, coffee and hints of smoke. Taste is quite sweet with some lactic notes, roasted malts, milk chocolate and hints of tartness. Finish is sweetish with some roastiness and chocolate notes. Okay, quite well balanced.

Bottle @ Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig. Pours deep brown with no head. The nose is chocolate, mildly sharp coffee rind. The taste is coffee, peas, chocolate. There’s a weird vegetable presence in this beer. The body’s full but drinkable. Overall, OK.

Bottle [12oz]. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small diminishing bubbly tan head. Aroma is kind of sweet with lightly roasted malt, dark fruit and chocolate first followed by lactic notes and light leafy hops. Malty, chocolatey flavour along with lactic notes, some sugar and light leafy hops -- not as big a flavour as I’d expected. Average to medium bodied, slightly creamy mouthfeel. I didn’t love it, it’s a little sweet for me and "mild" but it’s still quite enjoyable. -- Rated via Beer Buddy.

Bottle:   Black, moderate frothy tannish head, nice lacing.   Sweet cream heavy like roastiness on the nose.   A bit more roastiness on the tongue, mild hop bite, sweetened coffee that is heavy on the creamer.   A bit more bitterness on the backside, and roasted character.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Not as sweet or milky as others, but instead a bit more on the hop side.   Not out of balance at all, just a little more hoppy than I expected.   Body and mouthfeel are average, or moderate.   Somewhat of a cold coffee finish, lots of creamer involved, and some lingering hoppy notes.   Not bad, but not as creamy smooth or milky sweet as others.   More hop sided than most, which is fine.   Enjoyable for sure, and clean!

Bottle at Chriso’s pre-GBBF Shindig 2012. Poured a deep, opaque brown/black with a thin tan head. Big, fruity raisin & prune character with some booze, sweet choccy malts and a delicate dry roasted malt backbone. Medium body, a smooth mouthfeel beneath medium carbonation and a decent finish. A good stout with good bittersweet balance.
