Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

Pours black with a thick, dark tan head. Scent is coffee and cola. Taste is sweet, lactic....coffeee... Chocolate and cream....very malty. Maybe just a little too milky overall and in finish, but still quite good.

This is my current favorite Milk Stout. The taste is great, it's really smooth, and strong. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Black with tan, creamy head. Roast, mild hop notes, and mild sweet malt aroma notes. Full flavored, mild licorice, roast, citrus hop notes, and mild alcohol notes. Tongue zinger, medium bitterness, and fairly dry finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle: Aroma has got a wonderful nutty, milky, chocolate, and ever so slightly boozy scent. Appearance is a almost opaque but slightly translucent black with a thick tan head that lingers for a little while. Taste has got a definitely aqueous note to it...lol, nutty, roasted malt characteristic, the booziness is less pronounced in the flavor. It’s a malt playground in your mouth, but not really any discernible hops. For this style there doesn’t need to be though. Palate is slightly astringent in the aftertaste. Overall, Good but there’s some stuff I don’t personally like going on in this brew. Cheers!

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown to black in color with a small to medium sized creamy beige head. The aroma is roasted malts, a touch of chocolate with a lactose sweetness that is mild, but rather nice. The flavor has nice roasted malts, chocolate, lactose sweetness and late a hint of berry. Mouth feel is smooth with just a hint of bitterness at the back. Pretty nice for a $1.50 single at the local Kroger.

Pours dark with thin head. Aroma of roast malt, maybe slight cocoa, predominantly coffee. Flavor is mostly coffee, not too sweet, little bitterness. A little thin on the palate; less carbonation would have given this a thicker mouthfeel and probably pushed this over a 4.0 for me. Still a damn good stout which I would have again.

Appearance: velvety near-black, with a short, creamy, light tan head and some lacing. Aroma: melted milk chocolate, lightly toasted brown bread, cocoa powder, vanilla, and cream. Taste: sweet dark chocolate and vanilla, with a hint of crème fraiche at the end. Finish: smooth, creamy, with lingering delicately sweet milk and dark chocolate notes. Notes: A lot of milk stouts overdo the lactose, leaving a slightly unpleasant sour-ish twang. In this, the lactose was perfectly subdued, giving just enough body and sweetness without that off note. In essence, this beer was like drinking a dark chocolate jello pudding cup. Absolutely phenomenal. I’d drink this every day.
