COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

Coffee and chocolate make up this toasty brew. Not for summer. Hold off and enjoy on a fall or winter morning.

Tap @ Beer Temple. Color is black. Head is beige/tan, uneven. Aroma’s of sweet malt, chocolate, brown sugar, some sweet red fruit. Flavor is (medium) sweet, roasted. Medium body. Finishes with more roast and finally quite bitter.

Nephilium (1312) - Ohio, USA - JUL 1, 2012
Roasted aroma with a bit of sweetness behind it, this beer pours an opaque black with just a dusting of tan head. Very roast heavy in the flavor, with a lingering bitterness. There is a slickness in the mouthfeel, with little noticeable carbonation. Overall this is a beer to try out, especially if you’re not a fan of the overly sweet standard milk stouts.

Close to black body with a tiny light brown head. Strong burnt aroma of dark berries, coffee, tar, dark chocolate. The taste is medium sweet and medium to light bitter. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Lovely!

From the tap at the Craft Beer Co. Black pour with a beige head. Nice nose of chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Light bitter tang. Dry. Flavours of dark chocolate and dark roast coffee. Dry roasty finish. Tasty stuff.

from Erzbierschof - black beer with a little beige foam left; very roasted notes of coffee, a bit lactic with notes of licorice; full-bodied, very tasty and solidly bitter; long roasted coffeish finish; creamy and with more lactic notes and black cherries as well; some sweetness and notes of anise

Bottle to a pint glass. Pours a midnight brown with a small tab head that quickly becomes nothing. Aroma is chocolate, mild coffee, and a faint sweetness. Taste exceeds aroma. Cream and coffee, mild cocoa, and a nig of roasty malt. Thin mouthfeel, somewhat creamy, and kind of high on the carbonation. Not bad.

What a great beer. Virtually everything that I have had from Southern Tier has been excellent. The 2X Stout is no different. Deep and dark, with a chocolate/coffee smooth finish

Burnt malt and coffee aroma. Fairly thick with note of chocolate, coffee, and a little dried fruit. Well balanced, well made, heavy brew. Yum

Bottle- Pours a black color with a small tan head that fades to bits of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, with chocolate and coffee to round it out. Taste follows the aroma with roasted malt, chocolate and coffee and some caramel sweetness. Mild bitterness in the background with a dry finish. Full body, smooth, thick and creamy. No real hint of the 7.5% ABV. very nice balanced. Goes down easy. Good beer without being overpowering.
