Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

An interesting brew, hoppy and alcohol forward in taste, but quickly is balanced and gives way to a roasted sweetness. This beer looks and smells like a stout, but has hops to go with the sweets. Not bad.

Bottle. Poured a deep dark brown with a minimal off-white head. Aroma was roasted malt, a hint of coffee and dark fruit. Flavor added in just a touch of bitter and chocolate. Creamy. A good brew.

First high-abv milk stout I’ve ever had. I find it to be less "roasty" than most stouts, and it reminds me of a baltic porter due to the high abv and malty sweetness. The alcohol is definitely at the forefront of the flavor profile. But, the lactose makes it seem smoother than expected. A unique brew, and definitely a successful experiment.

Poured a deep, opaque brown/black with a thin tan head. Big, fruity raisin & prune character with some booze, sweet choccy malts and a delicate dry roasted malt backbone. Medium body, a smooth mouth feel beneath medium carbonation and a decent finish. A good stout with good bittersweet balance.

Lightly sweet, but less sweet than average, I think, for style. Higher ABV is well hidden despite a flavor profile that is more mild than bold.

Slightly disappointed here. Syrupy stout with one dimensional mild chocolate flavor. Smells a bit of wet dog. Decent, but I'll stick to Mokah. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a dark opaque brown to nearly black. Tannish slight frothy head. Aroma is chocolate with a toffee or coffee note. Taste is a sweet roast malt and light chocolate with a slight bitterness coming thru. A very nice double stout indeed!

tap at Dash In - Pours black with a small light tan head. The aroma is of roast malt and chocolate. It has a sweet malt flavor with roast character and lactose notes. Full bodied, this brew has some bitterness coming through in the finish. Very good brew.
