Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

This pours very dark and with a moderate head. Heavy and thick, this is rich without being too overpowering. Nice roasted flavor throughout.

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine and Spirits (Betton) - 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark ruby red to black with a quickly fading off-white head. Chocolaty aroma with some creamy accents. Flavor is enticing with nice bittersweet chocolate, a hint of day old black cold coffee, some licorice notes. Mouthfeel has nice lactic notes, creamy and velvety. Very solid.

The aroma is cream, caramel, roast, chocolate. The appearance is deep black, big tan head. The flavor is caramel, cream, chocolate, raost. The finish is sweet at first, light roast (lighter than the flavor) and light pine hops. Medium/thick in body, creamy. Pretty good.

Pours pitch black with a decent tan head. Has a chocolate aroma, with a very burnt impression. Lighter altogether. Taste is heavy in chocolate, and is extremely sweet. While good, it seems to lacking in anything further than this. Considering that this is more on the stronger side, it is very smooth. Despite this, the fact that it is as sweet as it is makes it not as easy to drink. Not really carbonated, and quite oily upon drinking. There are better stouts out there.

Bottle: The aroma consists of cocoa, bitter dark chocolate, roast malt, some burnt notes, coffee, and a hint of vanilla. it pours a dark brown with no transparency and a one finger beige head that quickly fades to a thin film. The flavor starts with milk chocolate, cocoa, and a hint of vanilla. The finish has some light notes of dark chocolate, roast, and coffee. It’s medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Overall, I remember this hitting my radar and assuming it would be a 22oz bottle that hopefully I would buy every now and then. I only bought a single, but I really like that this comes in 6-packs. As a stout fan, I can see myself drinking a good amount of this.

Bottle from Half Time. Pours black with a creamy tan head. Aromas of "milk" and chocolate with smooth burnt malt. Near full bodied. Lactose it is, with chocolate and smooth burnt malt. Finishes towards dry, but the sugar puts on the brakes. It tastes very nice.
