Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

355ml bottle. ½ Pint glass. Enjoyed on apr´12. Pours very dark brown in color crowned by a creamy, thick layer, foamy head. Lasting froth with nice rings & collars. Toasted malt & subtle bready yeast with a chocolate touch aromas. Gentle toasted malts & low bitterness at first sip followed by an involving sweet sensation. Lactose sugar creates a pleasant sensation on to the palate. Drinkability results flavorful without fat or cloying mouthfeel unfortunately associated to many spots of the Milk Stout Style. Perfectly covered ABV. Of course I´d have more than one!

Pours a deep black with tan head. Nose and taste are sweet, milky, and chocolaty. The booze is well hidden and the beer is very nicely balanced- not to much chocolate, not to much stout. It was just what I needed to end a busy day last night.

12oz bottle poured into glass. Dark brown color with a thin beige head. Holy chocolate!! There’s no escaping it here. Lots of chocolate both in the aroma and flavor. Sweet malt in the flavor mixed with sugar milk lactose. Very much an after dinner drink.

Pours dark with metallic red highlights. Smells rich and tastes richer. Slight coffee tones, malt, mild hops and chocolate. Sweet, but not so sweet that I was sick of it before I finished the glass. There are a number of things I’d buy again before I’d buy this, but I wouldn’t object if you were to offer me one.

Tap. Moderate toasted, nutty and iced coffee for the malt, light herbs for the hops, light to moderate earth for the yeast, with hints of wood and vanilla. Head is small, between frothy and creamy, khaki tan with good lacing and good legs and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, oily verging on creamy, with a soft carbonation and a lightly alcoholic and slightly sticky finish. Full and rich and sweet, perfect deScriptors of an excellent Sweet Stout.

On Tap from Joe Canal. Pours dark brown with a long lasting, thick, beige head, good amount of lacing and carbonation. Aroma is of bready, toasted malt and dark fruit. Body is full and creamy. Taste is toasted malt, bread, roasted grain, dark fruit, cacao, brown sugar and some earthy hops. Long, somewhat sweet finish. Nice, complex brew.

Had this a few times on tap and bottle - rating from last of a six pack from Liquor Loft. Black pour with hint of red and thin tan ring. Aroma is roasty sweet malt and chocolate. Tastes are sweet vanilla, chocolate and then bitter floral. Dryish hop bitter in the afters. Drinkable stout.
