COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

Sample at the 4th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Stout Tasting on 01/21/2012: Pours a dark reddish-brown color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts and coffee. Medium body with a sweet malt character and notes of roasted nuts, hops and mild coffee. The finish is creamy with a sweet malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Pours black into a snifter. Tan head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Sweet milk chocolate aromas. Thin with toffee, sweet milk chocolate, and anise upfront turning to a dry, dark, smoky resin finish..

Pours a deep chocolate brown with a very thin beige head, not much lacing at all. Smell of Chocolate and roasted malt on the nose, toasty and nutty. Medium bodied, nice and creamy, but just a touch of hops. Nice chocolate sweetness, the lactose is nice with the bittering hops. Seems like a dry finish, but how can that be with a sweet Stout? It works.

Pours black with a coffee colored head, but not too thick. Very light aroma compared to full rich, sweet taste. Coffee-ish after taste that shows the alcohol but in a good way. Great milk stout.

Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is slightly sweet from the lactose with some milk chocolate with some coffee. Thick mouthful with plenty of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts, Nice bitter finish. Another great Southern Tier stout.

Bottle. Stone smoked aroma. Fully opaque body with thin tan ring. Faint red hues peer through under certain light. Rich, sweet, stronger alcohol. Like other milk stouts I’ve had but on roids. Really good.

Draft at Coles. Dark brownish black color. sweet malts with medium roast in the aroma. Lighter mouthfeel. Sweet flavor, light herbal notes, slight tobacco, sweet sugary notes. Leather. Not doing it for me

Bottle. Poured dark brown color with medium to large brown frothy head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Medium to heavy toasted chocolate milk and small hop aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted sweet malt flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Thanks ughsmash. Pours a weak copper brown with one finger of dark tan head. Nose is meh, grainy with some black coffee and bakers chocolate. Flavor is really one dimensional and the bottom kind of falls out of it. Grain character has a lot of holes in it. Flavor needs building up. Body is blah, I’d expect more from something with lactose. Surprisingly dry finish.
