Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

A weak example of imperial stout. It has the ABV, but little flavor, aroma or complexity. A nice long lasting after taste is the best thing about it. When you want a lite version of a more serious Imperial Stout, this would be a good alternative.

Poured a black color with a medium sized tan head that left good lacing. The aroma was toasty malts, vanilla, cream and a bit of cocoa. The flavor was sweet cocoa, marshmallow, vanilla, cream and toasty malts. The finish was long and sweet with lingering cocoa and vanilla. Fairly full bodied and smooth. Good stuff

Pour opaque black, with a creamy light tan head. Aroma is slightly roasted, with chocolate, oatmeal and lactose. Slight hoppy towards the end. Taste is sweet and roasted, with a little bit of bitterness at the end. Medium bodied, quite smooth on the palate. Average carb.

A solid sweet stout. Very rich and thick, with lots of lactose. Some chocolate, and malt. Finish has surprising hops that are not so prominent in the flavor or aroma, leaving a very mild hop burn. Good.

12oz bottle in an English pint. Pours black with a fluffy, light tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, plus a little milk, and a good amount of hops. Flavor about the same with a lot of malts. Smooth texture. A pretty good beer, and one of Southern Tier’s more drinkable stouts.
