COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

Taste wise, I like this much better than Left Hand Milk Stout. Creaminess and mouthfeel, I’ve gotta give it to Left Hand. Black pour with a nice tan head. Chocolatey barley and lactose on the taste with some nice creaminess. Solid beer.

Pours black. Mild aroma of chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is mildly sweet with a mildly bitter finish.

Pour dark brown almost black with a fast dissolving head. Upfront coffee and dark bitter malt aroma. Smooth velvety mouth feel with not much carbonation. Filling rich finish.

Bottle. Dark brown with beige head. Smells almost like cherries. Tastes like alcohol, but finishes well. Coffee taste.

Poured into sniffer. Color leans towards dark brown with light white head. Not picking up on any aroma. Taste is standard coffe and chocolate stout. Some bitterness in aftertaste. Solid but nothing stands out.

Great overall stout, poured a perfect tan head, robust toasted flavor with a clean finish. Can drink over and over again.

Very minerally, like blood. Not chocolatey or smooth. Maybe a bad batch, but the whole six-pack was that way. My wife loves any kind of stout, but would not drink more than one sip of it. I blended it with other stouts, and that worked pretty well.

[Nitro Tap] Pours an inky black color. Aroma of chocolate malts. Tastes of sweet lactose, roasted barley and charred wood. Smooth and lighter than expected body (Probably due to the nitro more than anything.) Tasting notes from 1/2014.

Chocolaty & creamy with an almost velvety texture. Powerful & full bodied but with a well hidden ABV.

Bottle. Glossy black with sinking grey-tan collar. Aroma of rust, blackened grain, rye bread and carob. Simplistic burnt profile; paper and wood with hints of deeply bitter high cocoa chocolate, yeast extract on charred toast, maybe pepper. Slippery mouthfeel. Mentholyptus cough sweet with a slug of cold water bitterness. Alcohol pronounced and warming. Unimpressive.
