COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Double Milk Stout
"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

Bottled 3/14/12. Pours deep brown to black with beige head. Light, sharp aroma of dark chocolate and fruit. Mellow toffee and caramel up front, developing into a nice mix of hop and malt bitterness. Warm alcohol finish. Rich mouthfeel, medium to full-bodied. Very easy-drinking, pleasant milk stout.

Old rating. Black pour. Milk chocolate, some lactose, nutty, black malts. Creamy mouthfeel. Better than average.

The aroma of coffee. The taste is of dark malt and black coffee. Okay bitterness that fills the upper part of the mouth for a long while. Okay and easy to drink beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Had on Nitro tap. Good chocolate but slightly dull towards the end of the taste. Picks up well with food.

Bottle (12oz $2): Nearly blank with small tan head. Smells and tastes little a cross between bitter sweet chocolate and milk chocolate with a hint of salt. Body is medium plus. Good milk replacement 😃

Bottle - Pours black with a ring of tan head. Nose is nutty dark malt, rye bread, and a bit of milk sugar. Chocolate and a hint of coffee grounds. Smells a little nutty for a milk stout. Taste is the same--roasty and nutty with some bitter burnt wood and ash notes. Some sweet milkiness, but overall I was surprised at the dry roastiness on this one. Slick and medium bodied with medium carbonation.

Pours a dark mahogany brown. Aroma is roasted malts and grass hops. Initial flavor of sweet/sour milk is almost a turn off, but this beer is complex in that you need to taste the entire profile to really appreciate it. The milky flavor gives way to a grassy hop finish. I almost pick up a note of bubblegum in between the sweet/sour milkiness and the grassy hop finish. That’s wasn’t the intent. I would love to try this brew from a nitro tap as opposed to a bottle This one is interesting and requires more than one to rate.

Poured up a black brew with a head that quickly died to absolutely nothing. Looks flat now. Smells of roasted and chocolate malts makes the lack of any head seem not so bad. Taste did not disappoint either and was the same as the aroma. Silky smooth to drink but only marginal carbonation feel. So it tastes great, needs improvement on body, but the price is not too far out there and the 7.5% make it worth drinking.

Appearance: the beer is a very black opaque color that has so many bubbles it almost fades to the head color, which is a very creamy light tan color, looks great Aroma: milk, chocolate, kind of faint Taste: lactose, strong chocolate and bitterness, alcohol Palate: awesome thick nitro creaminess, bitter aftertaste, soft carbonation Overall: this is off a nitro draft and the mouthfeel has the best texture, pretty bitter and not as sweet as I was expecting ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a thin dark brown from a bottle, sour milk, acidic, not bad but not great.

Pours opaque red tinged dark brown, tan head. Faint roasty aroma. Flavor a bit of a surprise - pleasant one. The dark roasted grain is dominant, but there is also roasted spice and a hints of vanilla licorice. Really nice palate, effervescent, slightly creamy, a gently bitter/ashy finish. Overall surprised by the restraint of sweet and creamy that I expected from a milk stout, instead finding much more balance.
