5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. YUM!

12 oz bottle from Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh. This is nearly perfect and quite enjoyable. Plenty of creamy goodness with nothing over-the-top to spoil things. Not to be missed.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Appearance: velvety near-black, with a short, creamy, light tan head and some lacing. Aroma: melted milk chocolate, lightly toasted brown bread, cocoa powder, vanilla, and cream. Taste: sweet dark chocolate and vanilla, with a hint of crème fraiche at the end. Finish: smooth, creamy, with lingering delicately sweet milk and dark chocolate notes. Notes: A lot of milk stouts overdo the lactose, leaving a slightly unpleasant sour-ish twang. In this, the lactose was perfectly subdued, giving just enough body and sweetness without that off note. In essence, this beer was like drinking a dark chocolate jello pudding cup. Absolutely phenomenal. I’d drink this every day.

Pours dark ruby with a large tan head. Smells of roast and chocolate. Taste is sweet, roasty, and chocolaty. Medium-bodied with a slick, wet texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Southern Tier 2X Stout finishes with a lingering mild bitterness.

4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
’Whoa, what a beer! Take me to the river. Served at a perfect temperature with a colossal, very light tan, thick, foamy head that just sits there and loads of lace. Color is an opaque brown black. Aroma is mainly malt, roast, and caramel, hint of toffee. Flavors like nose, mild also, roast, easy bittersweet. Finish is like flavor, incredibly easy drinking. Choice beer.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark chocolate aroma. Black color with a thin head. Smooth and sweet as it warmed up a bit, replaced by a coffee bitterness later on.

This is my current favorite Milk Stout. The taste is great, it's really smooth, and strong.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Delicious and smooth. First sip is reminiscent of a cup of coffee, and almost tastes as such. Roasty bitterness, but smooth with a hint of sweetness. Tasty, tasty, tasty,,,,,

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Had on tap at Lockview in Akron, OH on 03/06/12.
Appearance: jet black in color with 2 finger light tab head. Moderate lacing.
Smell: roasted malts, alcohol, and hints of vanilla.
Taste: vanilla tones, slight alcoholic taste. Roasted malts.
Mouthfeel: not much retainment. Not very much kick for what is listed as 8.0% ABV by the restaurant.
Overall: easy to drink. I could see myself drinking a couple of these in an evening.

Serving: from bottle--purchased at Full Throttle Bottles.
Aroma: light, chocolate, malt aroma.
Appearance: large, rocky, light-brown, initial head with fair lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Dark-brown/black body.
Taste: lightly sweet and chocolatey initial flavor and lightly bitter and smokey finish with average duration.
Palate: medium bodied with creamy texture and soft carbonation.
Overall: excellent. I’d like to try it from the tap.
