4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 FatTony (175) - Augusta, Georgia, USA - JAN 19, 201312 ounce bottle- poured out a nice opaque reddish-brown with a moderate head. Aroma was a nice brown sugar and malt. Taste was brown sugar with a strong alcohol back. Palate was smooth and creamy, very nice. Just one question, Southern Tier Brewing is in...New York? This Georgia man finds that mildly disturbing...

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 hawthorne00 (1857) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 19, 2013
Bottle. Gloopy pour. Black with a light tan head. Aroma of milky chocolate, mild roast, cardamon, vanilla. Smooth mouthfeel, low carbonation. Rich, milky sweet with fudge, chocolate and coffee, Less roasty than suggested by the aroma. Some light floral notes along with the Indian sweetmeat spices. Bitterness creeps up to partially arrest the sweet finish. No sign of the alcohol. Nice, cuddly beer.

Light Aroma or chocolate. Rich deep black color. Nice rich creamy, chocolatey taste. Combined with lots of malt, caramel, and toffee. It has a nice complex flavor. It has a sharp bitter finish. I wish it had less of a bitter finished because the initial flavor is so pleasant.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 maneliquor (1555) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAY 15, 2013
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours a very dark brown with a medium, foamy light tan head which lasts the duration. Nose is very lactose forward with a fair bit of dry sweetness and roastiness. Lots of vanilla. Taste is all about the sugar and lactose. Vanilla forward with cream and soy notes. Sort of nutty in a way. Very creamy mouth feel which works in it’s favour. Rather sweet and focuses a lot on that which doesn’t. Not bad

355 ml bottle from wegmans in Niagara Falls. Black, tan head. Nice and roasty, well hopped. Doesn’t drink like a sweet stout. I like this a lot but it isn’t what it says it is.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 AaronDaniel (24) - Connecticut, USA - MAY 8, 2013
Appearance: This brew pours black with a dark tan head. There is some decent lacing.
Smell: I get a lovely nose of sweet caramel, chocolate, roasted malt, cereal, and cream. Can’t WAIT to dig in!
Taste: My tongue is immediately enveloped in sweet roasted malts, espresso, milky cream, and bread. There is a faint note of alcohol present as well. This is a MAN’s beer! This stout finishes nicely leaving cream, espresso and sweetness on the palate. There is also very subtle hops that are tamed by the cream and roasted malts. This beer throws down heavy sweet malt goodness- just like I like- without being over-the-top-syruppy-gross!
Mouthfeel: This has a medium to heavy tongue weight with ample carbonation.
Overall: This is a phenomenal milk stout through and through. I’ve had this bottled and on tap, and find myself utterly pleased. It’s hard to find on tap. I only know one place: McLadden’s in West Hartford, CT. This brew is a real treat. And, with 7.5% ABV at the same price as many inferiors, it’s well worth the investment. Southern Tier has never disappointed me. They really know how to make dark, rich beers teeming with complexity.
