3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a just barely translucent dark brown with a thin beige head. Aroma of roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is predominately sweet, with a malty, sugary profile, with just a hint of bitterness. Alcohol is very noticeable. Mouthfeel is well above average for a beer of this style, with a velvety palate. In sum: One of the best milk stouts I’ve tried, comparable to those made by Left Hand and Duck Rabbit. However, the Southern Tier pedigree is there--tasting this, you can see the links to Chocolat, Jah-va, and Creme Brulee Stouts. Think of this as an "imperial milk stout."

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nitro... Pours midnight-black with a large, silken, mushroom-colored head. Never-ending retention. Aroma-wise, heaps of earthiness and deeply roasted malts stand front-and-center - possibly rawhide as well, but to a lesser degree. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and pillow-soft carbonation. The flavor includes bittersweet, malty roastiness with a tongue-numbing, singed caramel and burnt-sugar finish.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Drink cold (8-10° C)
Eye: pours a deep dark, creamy color with a medium not too quickly dissipating beige head.
Nose: Nuts and dark fruit, can’t figure out which ones exactely though.
Mouth: creamy. dark chocolate and coffee malts. cranberries and and cassis. sweet licorice as well.
Palate: predominantely nuts, iron. Bitter in the finish.
Overall: good stout, nothing special though. creamy texture but other than that there’s nothing which would remind me of the beer’s name...

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Very dark brown pour with a short beige head. Aroma of milk chocolate, licorice, and faint floral hops. Bitter charred malts are at the forefront of the flavor of this beer with noticeable sweet lactose, chocolate, and roasted espresso that help this beer from becoming overwhelmingly bitter. Lingering bitterness on the palate. Very good but don’t the 12 oz. bottle fool you; this is a BIG, heavy beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Chocolatey roasted malt with a slight lactose sweetness aroma. Flavor is similar, lactose is not very noticeable and the finish is quite bitter for a milk stout. Almost has a burnt malt flavor. Palate has a light feel for a double stout. Not nearly as balanced as some other milk stouts and has some odd burnt flavors and not enough lactose balance. Ok but nothing special.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Southern Tier 2X Stout has a medium, cream-colored head, a dark brown, almost black, appearance, and just a little bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is a wonderful mix of milk/cream, dark-roasted malt, and sweet bread crust. Taste is the same, with low bitterness, but high acidity. Mouthfeel is heavy and slick, and Southern Tier 2X Stout finishes wet and sip-able. RJT

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Brune-noire très foncée. Mousse marron claire, seul anneau persistant.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml bottle served in a big snifter glass.
A: Pours a blackish brown color forming a small but quite creamy beige head. Medium retention and only small spotty lacings left in the glass
S: Strong notes of roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate. Biscuity. Earthy yeast profile. Great notes of flowery hops in the end
T: Slightly sweet upfront. Strong notes of roasted malts, coffee, milk and dark chocolate follows by a sharp hops bitterness in the end. Great balance of roasted malts bitterness and hops bitterness
M: Heavy, creamy and milky body. Smooth. Good carbonation (a bit too much, indeed). Roasted malts and hops in the aftertaste
O: Great drinkability. Delicious American Milk Stout
