COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Not quite an imperial, but certainly not a standard India pale ale. Our double IPA is a hop lovers dream. Citrusy and clean with an incredible finish.

I enjoyed this double a lot. It was incredible well balanced and not too overpowering to the palate. Granted, I like to be pulverized sometimes, but others it’s nice to relax a little. Big full nose of hops followed by strong hop palate complemented with a subtle sweetness from the malt that mellows the overall flavor. Finish is clean and crisp and refreshing, more so than most beers this big.

A double IPA ... one of my favorite styles. Clear gold, small white head. Sweet nose of candy sugar, light roasted malts, and citrusy American hops. Taste of light malts, American hops, but with a dry finish. Not my favorite example of my favorite style, but an easy beer to like.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange with with a medium head. Aromas of of pine, citrus and caramel. Citrus hop flavor with a nice malt backbone. Very good and drinkable, but slightly bland for a double IPA.

Nice clean grassy hop aroma. Pours a clear orange, with a dusting of white head. Nice full and juicy hop flavor, clean on the palate, with a nice long bitter finish. Quite a tasty beer, and one I’ll be getting some more of.

Draft at Blind Pig in Champaign. Pours a slightly hazed gold with nice sticky head. Nose is quite clean and the grapefruit and orange peel jump out. On taste, a bit sweet but finishes reasonably dry. Nice bitterness and easy drinking. Decent.

I thought the nose on this was big time grapefruit, in fact rather like grapefruit juice. Color was standard gold with a nice lacing pattern. Hops are present in the palate but toned down and softened by a nice maltiness. There is also a citrus presence in the palate. This is nice but not that complex, not one of the big bomb ingredient laden IIPA’s I’ve come to love.

Aroma:The malt aroma of this beer is very strong, with the hops taking second place. The hops smell mildly of citrus. Appearance:Pale golden color, with great head retention and good lacing. Taste:On the foretaste, there are hops, and a good amount, but not quite as much as I expect in a DIPA. They all do taste good though, and as foretaste gives way to the midtaste, the hop complexity makes itself known more, peaking in the midtaste. The aftertaste is just a ramping down of the same, but it lingers pleasantly on the tongue. The malt flavors are rather subtle through the whole experience. Palate:Very smooth body, easy to drink. Nicely carbonated. Overall:I was expecting the hops to be more in your face, as many American brewers are doing these days, but instead, southern tier went in for a deeply complex, thoughtful brew. It’s one of the more sessionable DIPAs out there, as much as any DIPA can be sessionable.

A very solid DIPA from Southern Tier. Surprisingly west coast flavor from an east coast brewery.
