3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a golden yellow with not much of a head. Aroma is subtle hops and perhaps some grapefruit, but not much else. Not overly carbonated but it’s still a little prickly up front. Finishes smooth with some moderate bitterness. It’s somewhat complex, but I don’t really consider this Imperial IPA complex at all. To me it’s just more of a boozy IPA. Overall this is a pretty nicely crafted brew, just not worthy of the "Imperial" moniker, IMO. SLAINTE!

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
From bottle. This beer scares me. It’s a subtle little number. Lovely colour but poor thin head. Not much of an aroma, but what aroma there is is sweet with some fruit hints. A smooth drinking experience not to carbonated which was a relief. initial taste isn’t too hippy, surprising considering their claims. Don’t get me wrong there’s hops in there but just not a impressive is claimed. Hence, why i’m scared something this strong should have a far better taste and more recognisable hop flavour.

no hint of the alcohol. flowery citrus dishwater hop profile that is slightly peppery and sweet. body is moderately light and watery with a full explosion of flavor. malt and steel backbone finishes long. nice full frothy carbonation from the bottle with light stingy afterglow. touch of caramel.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Proof. Pours a copper gold with small frothy off white head. The aroma is a floral hop. Medium mouthfeel with a smooth citrus and pine hops and lingering light bitter finish. Easy to drink, a very good IIPA from Southern Tier.

Brown bottle, purchased at the LCBO, savoured on August 22 2011; eye: golden, clear, minimal effervescence, tiny ring of off-white head, slight lacing; nose: lots of hops on the initial pour but it disappears almost completely the second time I smelled the beer, caramel, orange, alcohol; mouth: alcohol, malt, caramel, hops, finale in alcohol with presence of malt, full body, average carbonation, lightly alcoholic texture; overall: ordinary and it feels more like a malt liquor than an IPA

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
355 ml bottle - poured very cloudy with chunks of yeast (I hope?) floating around the glass. Aroma was very nice, but oddly muted for such a big beer. Regardless, the standard notes of big citrus and pine are there. Flavour is similar - certainly nothing wrong, just nothing that stands out. Sweet malt, big hops, a touch more alcohol prevalence than I prefer. Seems kind of...simple? I don’t know, ST’s stuff just doesn’t do it for me - all the products (this one included) have a strange residual sweetness, like Belgian candi-sugar, that I don’t dig. But others love it, so there you go. Diff’rent strokes, and all that...Solid beer, just not really to my taste.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very nice IPA. I think the 2x moniker is a little misleading; this is definitely no double IPA. Still, I would definitely pick it up again.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle. Clear golden yellow with a small, spotty white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, crackers, sugar and flowers. Flavor is bitter hops up front that fades to a light honey and cracker malt finish. Medium to light body with average carbonation and a dry, clean mouth feel. Great beer, the alcohol is very well hidden and the balance of hops and malt is nice.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This double IPA pour a hazy golden colour with a creamy white head, great retention and very nice soapy lacing. The nose is hoppy, but not as I expected. It is quite mild with some notes of fruits (almost like pineapple and oranges). The alcohol is very well-hidden and this one goes down very easily. Again, the taste is pretty mild with hop creating a little bitterness. This really is going down too smoothly. Quite a nice blended brew that is totally worth the money (as most beers of that high alcohol are quite expensive usually).

I’ve never had anything from Southern Tier that was less than excellent and so the tradition continues with 2XIPA! In a word, smooth! I disagree with the brewers description, this is every bit a DIPA and a good one at that.
