Not quite an imperial, but certainly not a standard India pale ale. Our double IPA is a hop lovers dream. Citrusy and clean with an incredible finish.

Bottle at the Cad’s "Let’s ’ave Yer Glasses Please" tasting. Only brief notes because I was convinced I’d rated this before. Quite pale colour. Fair amount of hops in evidence but not as intense as I was expecting from a DIPA - perhaps some bottle age has caused a drop-off. Decent enough but a bit underwhelming. I’m sure I have some better notes somewhere and have enjoyed this more in the past.

Pours a pale gold with a small off white head. Aroma is dominated by pine and caramel, with a hint of citrus . Detected some tropical fruits in the flavour, as well as sweet caramel and pine. Quite thick mouthfeel with low carbonation. Bitter on the finish, and some heat from the alcohol. Nice

Draft. Pours a clear bright medium gold with ample foamy white head and plenty of sticky lacing. Nose is pretty straight forward and hop dominate with sweet pineapple citrus and very faint ’crackery’ malt. Not quite a sweet up front, still mostly pineapple notes and some light soap. Very one dimensional and lacking any real complexity. Some dry paper notes on the end as well.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2010 Poured from bottle. Nice, grapefruit hop and ocean in aroma. Golden ale color, thin white head. Great grapefruit / pine hop flavor, with pancake notes. Can’t believe this is 8.2%. Very well done.

12 fl oz bottle. Tall and dense platina blond head. Sparkling brass colored body. Aroma of minty, citrus-fruity and peacy hops, well blended with caramelly and grainy malts. Quite sweet-flavored. A fresh, both fruity and malty sweetness. Bold bitterness; lemon and oranges, faint resin and tropical. More than medium full. Smooth and slick in the mouth. Fruity hop linger in the finish. Very good indeed.

Bottle served in a tulip. Pours clear light orange with a medium sized white head. Average retention and lacing. Nose is lemony citrus, grass, hay, and heat. Medium sweet, slightly bitter flavor. Blanced palate. Medium body, good carbonation, then a big green fizz, and a finish shared equally by soft malt and clean hops.

On tap at Capone’s last Saturday. Pours a light gold bordering on yellow. Nice white head in the tulip and large amounts of lacing as it makes its way down. Promising start but the nose is a big letdown. With a name like 2XIPA, I’m expecting something big and bold. This brings a bit of citrus and grass, but nothing over the top. Taste is the same, although the bitterness levels are pretty high. Not much malt and very little actual hop flavor apart from the bitterness; not sire what they were going for here. Mouthfeel is dry and slightly alcoholic. Good drinkability as I like me some resin with my lunch, but nothing spectacular. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 09-28-2010
