3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Decades ago, a lovely friend in Batavia, IL, hosted a Christmas party at which she served glögg that had been simmering on the stove all day. It was wonderful and dangerous at the same time (and had an alcohol content a fair amount north of the 8% of 2XMAS). This brew compares nicely to her concoction--heavy on the spices and generally sweet and full bodied. Perhaps I should try simmering 2XMAS come December.

Transfer from BA review on 11-24-12-
Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance – Pours a red mahogany colored brew with a two finger off white head. The head fades relatively quickly to leave a moderate level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is not too potent and consists of a cinnamon, nutmeg and clove spice mixed with a roasted malt.
Taste – The taste begins with a roasted malt flavor and a sugar brown sugar taste mixed with a dark cherry and fig flavor. In the middle some spice flavors start coming to the tongue while the brown sugar and roasted malt flavors start to dwindle a bit. While the roasted malt and the sugar flavors dwindle, the end of the flavor sees an increase in the sweet cherry and fig flavors mixed with some and is joined by a light alcohol burn and some more spice of nutmeg , clove, and cinnamon.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the just above average side in terms of creaminess and thickness with a carbonation level that is just below average. The creamier body is good for enhancing the sweet fruit, boozy and spice flavors of the brew as they can really be fully sensed by the tongue.
Overall –The end of the flavor profile leaves a nice spiced flavor on the tongue which mixes quite well with the fruit flavors of the brew and the warming feel of the alcohol. Overall a warming, but drinkable brew with a good sweeter spiced flavor.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour is a murky brown with a small tan head. Aroma is loads of ginger with some other holiday spices. Flavor is more spice with a little star anise and ginger. Mouthfeel is very heavy and there is a dark candi sugar left on the tongue after this goes down. Decent spiced winter beer but way heavy though.

1.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
Not a fan of spiced holiday beers. Sweet alarming aroma. Orangish. Starts off better thn expected than it morphs into a volatile warm throat sensation. On finish it settles down a tad. Little co2 and somewhat mouth coating. Did not appreciate the high alky content.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep reddish color with off-white head. Lots of spice on the nose on this one, a little malt too; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more spice. Good winter seasonal.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 10, 2014 Pours a mahogany color with a head that fades to bits of lacing. Aroma of citrus bit of malt swetness and spices. Taste of citrus, malt sweetness and plenty of spice. Mild bitterness and a bit of a sticky finish. Medium body, smooth and plenty of spice for the holiday season. Good seasonal beer, but not so much a warm sping day.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured clear copper color with a 1-finger bone-colored head. Aroma of candied citrus mixed with spices, maybe nutmeg and mace. Body is medium, with a light thickness to it. Flavor has a mild bitterness of citrus peel up front, giving way to a spice note that lingers pleasantly in the finish.

I wish I could have enjoyed this during the christmas season. 6 pack was on sale for $8 in March. Pours a deep red with a quickly fading tan head. Smells of holiday spices like cinnamon and orange. Very creamy, festive taste to it. Love it.
