Smells of fig malty and a bit bitter. Taste is full flavored and balanced. Fig and some spice, maybe nutmeg?? Toasted malt flavor with spice. Enjoyable winter beverage. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Heathen (1500) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - JUN 27, 2013
THOUGHTS: Very Christmasy. Lots of spices, but enough malt to back it up. Hid alcohol fairly well. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear. very dark red that was nearly brown in the glass with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma had heavy dark bread, nutty malt and caramel; light spicy hops; grape; raisin; date; fig; slight alcohol; holiday spices; dark fruits; and oranges. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and slightly bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet, lightly bitter and slightly acidic and sour. There was caramel, fruitcake, figs, raisin, dates, dark fruit, citrus, orange, and holiday spices. The medium body was extremely easy to drink and was a bit oily with slightly soft but tingly carbonation and a dry if anything, but not really much of any finish.

12oz bottle in a shaker. Pours deep amber with a thick, beige head. Aroma of spices and fruit cake, plus a little caramel malts and floral notes. Flavor the same. Average texture. Interesting, but not for me.

Shared a 12 ounce bottle in the Alaskan wilderness. Notes of spiced cake, citrus, cinnamon, fruity, spruce. This is a good beer.

Pours a deep dark ruby cinnamon red with a small beige head. Aroma of sweet spices, cinnamon, dark fruity notes with a bit of orange peel. Taste same as aroma flavor is sweet bitter cinnamon and orange peel, and sweet spices. Palate is a medium body with moderate carbonation and a sweet spices bitter mouth feel. Finishes with a combination of sweet spices, lots of cinnamon with a bit of an bitter orange peel flavor on the end. A bit on the sweet side but overall an interesting yet drinkable take on a holiday brew.

Deep copper, clear, white head. Dark baked bread, toffee, burnt sugar, allspice, prunes and raisins, a little orange peel, a light herbal note.

Christmas is a bottle. Figs, cinnamon, spiced orange aroma. Flavors are similar with a nice toastiness. Spiced, festive finish. Alc well hidden. A new holiday favorite!
