From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Mahogany-cherry amber colored pour with a quick lasting off-white fizzy head. The spices in the aroma include a big dose of ginger and nutmeg, clove and allspice. Light hop note. Medium body. The booze tends to kick in more in the taste than on the nose along with the ginger and peppery spices. The finish lingers and ends dry.

Poured into shaker glass from growler. Pours a very nice clear copper with a quick but decent head. Seems to have plenty of co2. Lite lacing on glass as head retreats to sides. Allspice, orange aroma. Medium body, sweet. Taste is allspice, orange, nutmeg. Spice is at good level, not to lite or like licking a scented pine cone. Not normally my cup of tea but I enjoyed this one, well done.

Nutmeg. Prunes. Cinnamon. Truffles. Cardamom. Sasafrass. Dark caramel sweetness married to some bitter earthy spice. Similar to their Pumpkin beer but with a darker fuller body and no pumpkin.

I usually like strong winter seasonal ales but I’m not down with this one. The smell is weird and medicinal. The taste is slightly better but it still isn’t very good. Some pine and bread notes. Pours a dark chestnut color with a medium head.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
Southern Tier 2xMas has an extremely thin, off-white head, a clear, burgundy appearance, with no bubble streams and no lacing left behind. The aroma is of mixed spices- and, this is very strong- with a background of sweet bread. Taste is of spices, particularly white pepper and sweet bread. Mouthfeel is medium and a bit slick, and Southern Tier 2xMas finishes semi-dry, spicy, and rich. Overall, this is another crummy spiced/flavored beer, of which serious beer drinkers are so weary. It is okay for beer in general, but maybe most excellent in the insipid spiced beer genre. It is what it is. RJT

Draft pours a clear burnt umber with thin tan head. Light malty aroma. Spicey flavors of coriander, cinnamon, and white pepper with a warm finish. A very nice winter ale to be enjoyed by a roaring fire.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
Poured from bottle into shaker glass. Deep clear red copper with a small head that faded to a thin layer of bubbles. Quite a bit of lacing. Aroma is malt, roasty, clove, cinnamon, orange. All those same flavors when tasted. Medium body, somewhat creamy texture, even if a bit thin and watery. Plenty of carbonation. Lingering spicy bitter finish.
To date probably the best Christmas/Winter ale I’ve had! I expected lots of spice/flavor and this definitely delivered.
