3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted on February 7, 2013:
A: Pours a very dark amber, Kind of a maple color. Barely any retention.
S: Numerous spices right off the bat. A faint hint of orange and some cinnamon. No fig.
T: Mouth full of spices. Picking up mainly cinnamon and nutmeg. Very malty in the beginning and a slight fig note in the end. Not very sweet in the end.
M: Wouldn’t go as far as smooth, but a good sipping beer. I have a medium heaviness left on my tongue.
O: A very unique and good spiced winter ale. Enjoyed the cinnamon and nutmeg. Just wish there was a little more to it.
Serving type: bottle

Taste: figs, potpourri, slight tangerine hints, strong alcohol bitterness,
Palate: soft carbonation, heavy mouthfeel, sweet and bitter aftertaste, has a syrup feel to it

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from jredmond. Pours clear copper with slight beige head. Aroma is juniper and mixed spice. Med body or so. Flavor is mixed - sort of pie spice mixed with twigs and/or juniper. Hence a bit woody. Interesting stuff.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark copper/chestnut brown color with mahogany edges and a half finger off-white head that immediately fades into a very thin ring. Not much in the way of lacing.
Complex aroma with lots of sweet malt and zesty, earthy spice. Potpurri like aroma with flower petals, cinnamon, brown sugar, clove and allspice followed by caramel malt cherry and dark fruit notes. There’s event a peppermint like presence. I don’t know how Southern Tier does it but this beer smells just like XMas, creating an olfactory sensation that triggers childhood memories. Crazy!
Medium bodied with tight carbonation and a heavy spice presence that’s countered by sweet malt, dark fruit and a medicinal syrupy flavor. This medicinal flavor tends to be overwhelming in holiday beers it’s kept in check here by the other characteristics. Lots of cinnamon, pepper, allspice and clove along with cherry cough drop and other dark berries. Slight alcohol sweetness but the high ABV is well masked with little to no heat. A little heavy on the spices but it’s a pretty good holiday beer that’s easy to drink.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Aroma of Christmas spice and malt (in that order). Clear bourbon colored deep amber, bubbly beige rim head, spots and dots of lace. Taste is malt that is immediately doused with a heavy dose of Christmas spice. The spice carries to a lightly hopped finish. Good, not great, pretty much a small dose brew.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
I once read that the Belgians say, "if you can tell what the spices are, you’ve used way to much" and that seems VERY appropriate here. This was WAAAAAY to spicy for me.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2015-08-04. Hazy dark amber brown body, nice tan head fades. 3+ Aroma has a good amount of spice character, nutmeg, all spice and more I can’t pick out. 7++ Flavour is similar spice character, moderately bitter throughout, pleasant sweet malty core. 7+ Smooth medium bodied palate, moderate carbonation. This is basically Anchor’s Christmas beer with a bigger malt core, and it works better because of it. Spice character is still overly strong for my taste but I think that was the idea. Pretty nice, but better suited to Christmas than the much delayed summer consumption I am giving it. Bottle from Ye Olde Spirit Shop, MD.
