Southern Tier 422 is a hazy pale golden ale with a thin, bubbly head that fades, but leaves nice lacing. There are notes of lemon, grass and bread in the aroma. It has a very smooth medium-light body with a clean finish. It is very lightly flavored with wheat and lemon. There’s not much bitterness to speak of. It’s slightly sweet at the finish. It’s very refreshing and very sessionable.

(12oz bottle) Lightly hazed straw body topped by mostly dissipating small white head. Aroma is medium sweet, strawberry, some lime, cereal, lemon, light wheat. Taste is medium sweet, lime/grape, some wheat/cereal, strawberry. Easy drinking light-medium body.

Bottle: Hazy yellow pour with a white film of head. Light wheaty notes in the aroma meshing with cereal grain and lemony grassy notes- dry. Dry flavor as well- lots of grains- light wheat and lots of cereal mesh with a grassy presence. Some odd notes on the back that are reminiscent of artificial sweetener (I get that with some other offerings from ST- is it just under attenuation?) Not that bad, just a bit off on the back.

Very pale straw colored pour. Clear with lots of bubbles, fluffy white head. Floral malt aroma. A little pungent and sweet. Bitter malt flavor. Lots of cereal malt flavor. Not much of a hop presence. Not very good, but not bad. Easy to drink and a decent beer for a ball game.

Pours a cloudy peach color with a smallish white head that fades quickly. Tart mandarin accents a mild hop backbone in the aroma, with some honey and grain, and maybe even a bit of lemonade. The flavor is very unimpressive up front, but gets better with the aftertaste (thanks to the unfiltered nature of the brew, no doubt). Starts out as a fairly lifeless pale ale, with really not much going for it. It does have an effervescence that’s nice in this style, but the flavor is bland - until the aftertaste, which brings out the grain and pale malts in a big way. I’d take this over most hefs any day - quaffable, and probably fantastic on a hot summer day... but honestly, not something I’d seek out for any other occasion.

Southern Tier does a good job of packing a lot of flavor (or is it "hops"?) into lighter styles of beer. I really like that about them. Here, I am not so sure how successful they were. This was quenching in its light graininess, but didn’t have a whole lot of flavor.

12oz thanks to 17thfloor. Semi-cloudy with golden color and medium white creamy head. Aroma is wheat forward and dry with graininess. Grain is the first and most prominent flavor charecteristic with wheat, banana and spice following it up, slightly mettalic as well. Medium body with nice carbonation. Love the message, the beer itself is nothing to right home about though.

Pale, mininal head, looks like American lager crap, smells like it too, honey, grainy, not much else going on there. Palate is sweet, lemon, a bit of graininess in there, tiny bit of hops in the finish. I don’t understand why ST was interested in making this.

Thanks 17thfloor! Pours cloudy golden yellow with a decent lingering white frothy head. Aroma is very grainy and a decent amount of citric fruit , some lemon peel and wheat with some sugar. Flavor starts with a weak sweet citrus fruitiness and picks up a wheat grain flavor and finishes dry on the tongue. Lemon is the predominant fruit and it doesn’t get much moving elsewhere. medium body and active carbonation. So so beer, very light and crisp.
