Well balanced. a lot of barley wine’s lean into the double IPA category. This starts too, but it has enough of a sweet malty backbone to stay put.

Aroma: An aroma of over ripe oranges and wood, with some caramel and booze
Appearance: This one pours a hazy caramel-brown color with a creamy tan head and lots of lace
Flavor: Nice barley wine flavor, a nice hop presence to go along with the above average sweetness
Palate: Quite smooth and drinkable with a creamy mouthfeel and a medium-full body
Overall Impression:
I was looking forward to this one, I’ve been holding onto it for about 5 months, but it was well worth the wait. Anyway, I really enjoyed this one, and liked how it was put together. Just a great tasting beer, on the sweet side for a barley wine, but it just really flows. I’d certainly recommend this one to anyone looking for a nice barley wine. It really just works.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 28, 2009 Bottle 65 cl. Pours hazy deep amber with a small and off-white head. The aroma is sweet matly, hoppy and smooth caramelish too. The falvor is sweet malty. Mild hoppy bitterness and wooden too, leading to a dry bitter finish. Gr0ve (1428), Oslo, Norway
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 27, 2009 660 ml bottle. Dark reddish brown and crystal clear. Medium-sized fine-laced white head that clings to the glass. Sharp grapefruity and metallic hop aroma. Sharp citrus flavours. Feels rather light on the tongue, but a lot of hop bitterness clearly hide the real residual sweetness. For 10% this beer is really well balanced, and I love the hops used. Very refreshing. Lovely beer. Tanker12 (136), USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 22, 2009 This is a solid, solid barleywine. Unassuming warm, typical, nose, as well as an "I’m here, but that’s about it" appearance, but then things get interesting. Big, nicely smoothed taste and extremely crisp palate make this a drinker at 10%. Not sweetened or otherwise altered like some Southern Tier beers. In short, yet another extremely well-done "extreme" beer from ST.
