Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 13, 2008 22 ouncer from By the Bottle in Vancouver, WA--Poured a dark amber-copper-brownish body with a rich off-white head. Spicy, floral nose with a hardy malt spine. Crisp, refreshing and well balanced. Alcohol heat evident as beer warms up some. Very nice use of multiple Hallertau hops. Yummy! scrizzz (1246), kirkland, Washington, USA Oct 13, 2008 Bottle from lilbeerdoctor, thanks! I’m shocked to find this aroma very similar to the unearthly I recently had. I get a thick and resinous syrupy aroma of dried tropical fruit. Red in the center, moving to gold on the edges of the glass with a thick dense white head. I’m not sure what I think about this, nothing really sticks out or jumps to mind like nearly every other beer I’ve had, save for the earthy crunchy leafy hop character that remains on the back of the mouth so fiercly I feel I can chew it. There’s some caramel, I guess, but I find much of the flavor as ’good’ and ’tasty’ but still uninspiring and actually rhetorical. rederic (1785), montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 3, 2008 22oz bottle, bright amber color, with a small thick beige head, leaving laces, sweet fruity, toasted malt nose, with some mild candied apricot, tangerine peel accents with a light floral hop spiciness, with a caramel aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet fruity, malty syrupy, toasty character, with some candied lemon, orange peel fruitiness, with a nice flowery hop leafy accent, having a hint of mintiness, in warmth mouthfeel, leading towards a warming malty, leafy hop citrusy bittering finish. Snojerk321 (1914), San Diego, California, USA Sep 30, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours a translucent orange amber with a medium bubbly/foamy off white head that left a spotty lacing. Aroma was a lot of sweet malts, caramel, biscuit, toasty, toffee along with flower hops with some light spiciness and some earthiness. Flavor of caramel, grainy malts, floral hops. riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Sep 28, 2008 Aromas of toasty caramel malts, bread, some chocolate, and earthy, spicy hops. Pours a copper tone with a thin lasting head and great sticky lacing. Funky floral bitterness up front, a touch of cat box funk too. Malty notes of caramel, toast, chocolate, and some sweetness. Some light funky bitterness lingers on the palate. Medium carbonation, smooth drinking at 9%. MI2CA (1260), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Sep 27, 2008 22oz - Aroma of crystal malts and floral hops. pours transparent red with a medium head and good lacing. Flavor is malty with a subtle hop finish. Palate is creamy with the alcohol hidden well. Not bad but nothing special. Pwn3d (1036), Manhattan, New York, USA Sep 24, 2008 650ml bottle. A very sessionable american strong ale. Very hard to believe this was 9%, I would have guessed half that. Tasted great. jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA Sep 21, 2008 Red and amber in the glass. Aromas are straightforward, hop bite and some slight chocolate, some spice from the hops. Distinctly European hop flavors are a little floral, a little stale. Empty finish, but medium mouthfeel otherwise. Pretty solid and definitely old school.
