| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 30, 2008 Bottle. Pours a somewhat dark amber with a finger or so of head and aromas that feature big hops: pine, pineapple and a bit of floweriness. Flavor is thick with hops and sticky sweetness, but it doesn’t come across as overpowering or cloying like many of the big IIPA’s... still, it kind of has that flavor. Sweetness is caramel malt and hops are a little more on the pineapple/citrus side than in the nose. Pretty good stuff. checkmatei1 (630), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 23, 2008 Bottle purchased at Sam’s in Clybourn.
Appearance is a clear light orange hue with amber edges, clumpy off-white foam dissipates, watery lacing.
Smell is subtle aromas, hints of bread and caramel malts, light hops, and yeast.
Taste is initially bread malts and grain, transitions to subtle caramel malts and floral/pine hops, finishes dry.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, watery slick texture, moderate to prickly carbonation.
Drinkability is fair, surprising lack of [caramel] malts for a red ale, hallertau is subtle and lacks some of the hop body presence seen in the other beers in the ST Imperial lineup, alcohol is well-masked, this feels more like a pale ale than a red ale. jimhilt (1674), Bow, New Hampshire, USA
