Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

Bottle. Translucent copper with a tall foamy, sturdy off-white head. Nose is piney hops, citrus fruits, soft caramel, chewy malts, some spiciness and nuttiness. Taste is strong spicy hops, chewy caramel, sweet malt notes, citrus fruits and oils, light pine and nutty flavors. Body is creamy with a medium overall feel. Ends with more spicy hops, some floral notes, citrus oils, pine, caramel, sweet malts and raw nuts. Not bad at all!

Aroma of some light citrus and earthy hoppiness. Flavor was pretty aggressive hoppiness and a really solid bitterness. THere was a decent caramel flavor and maltiness. Not bad at all. Really easy to drink overall but a little aggresive i though.

Man, this stuff is tits, balance balance balance is the word here . . on the nose you get some fruit notes along with spice box, and that hoppy touch in the background. . . . The pallet is great ! ABV, well hidden in this stuff. It’s got a great hop finish, but not to overbearing, just enough to be addicting. . . Medium to Full. . If this stuff gets to warm watch out, the hops bite your mouth and the finish gets a bit sweet, but still maintains it’s balance. . . Great use of Hallertau here. . . decent Carb. Great pallet sick to it. . . Went Tail Gating to a Baseball game and slammed 6 22oz before going in the game, now thats Pre-Game Drinkin’ ! Another piece of art work in a bottle from Southern Tier, just keep off the Kiddie beer boys !

Bright, amber/orange appearance with a small, off white head and modest lacing. Hits of spicy, citrusy hops in the aroma with toasty malts in the background. Hops hold the upper hand in the taste at first, but by mid gulp biscuity malts add balance and earthiness. Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated mouthfeel. Lingering finish not overwhelmed by the relatively high abv.

650 ml. Clear, deep copper with a small but lasting head leaving some soapy lacing. Aroma is juicy caramel-drizzled citrus fruit, resin and tea leaf. Flavor begins with a lesser version of the same, turns towards more tea leaf, nutmeg, rye, soggy wood and peppery herbs. Long finish of peppery oak and toasted walnut. Near-medium body is dry and too fizzy.

I really enjoyed this one. Poured from a bomber, nice amber color, fine head with nice lacing. Not as "red" as expected, but wow what flavor! Front is rich caramel, sweet, some citrus. Back is aromatic bitter hops, great balance, alcohol does not sting. Creamy and rich texture. Great until the end.
