Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

Pours a clear amber with a medium sized beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, cherry, chocolate and some elderberry. Flavor is sweet, chocolate, grapefruit and light alcohol. Smooth texture, somewhat thin body for the style. Medium caramel sweet finish.

Dec. 2007 - Clear copper color with very little head but a little lacing. Weak aroma of caramel and floral hops. Malt profile was caramel, bread and a lot of bittering hops, english style and floral bitterness. Not really thick or interesting. Kind of tasted like some imperial bitter or something.

Bottle shared at tasting. Thanks!
Pours a golden amber color with a medium lived offwhite head. Smell is medium red ale like maltiness, with caramel. Taste is balanced dark caramel and fairly hoppy and lasting moderate bitterness. Mild alcohol flavor, but not bad for 9.5%. Pretty good and drinkable.

Bottle at Chaucer’s Pub in London, Ontario- Deep, hazy amber with a fluffly, slightly off white froth. Caramel malt with woody, citrusy hops in the nose. Spicy and toasty. This is a big beer in terms of caramel and sweetness, brown sugar, quite spicy from the halletrau, but also citric like an IPA. Fruity, woody, quite earthy and full leading into a spicy, sweet yet bitter finish. An interesting take this one is. Glad I tried it.

Bottle pours an orange red amber color with a big off white head that laces very well. The aroma is hops and some malt below it. The flavor is of fresh hops, some bready malt, and some more amber characteristics when compared to the Southern Tier Hoppe that I just rated. This one is much more caramel and a touch roasted with a lingering bitterness. Dry, much more dry than the Hoppe! The palate is more rich than average. Overall, this one stands up well.

22oz bomber. Orange-brown color, filtered from the looks of it. Fresh amber malt aroma. This is an awesome Imperial Amber beer. Smooth and creamy with a solid Hallertau backbone. The warming of the alcohol and the creamy richness of the amber malt go together quite well. Really an exceptional beer by any standard. Pleasant lingering aftertaste of hops.

Bottle. Pours orange with an off white head. Aroma is grapefruit and caramel malt. Medium body, very smooth and easy drinking. Flavor has earthy notes, as well as more grapefruity hops and caramel malt. Finishes on a dry grassy note. Alcohol is very well hidden. As others have said, a bit more malt would make this an excellent beer. Nonetheless, I drank it after a very long day and enjoyed it a lot. Exactly what I needed.
