Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

22oz bomber. Orange-brown color, filtered from the looks of it. Fresh amber malt aroma. This is an awesome Imperial Amber beer. Smooth and creamy with a solid Hallertau backbone. The warming of the alcohol and the creamy richness of the amber malt go together quite well. Really an exceptional beer by any standard. Pleasant lingering aftertaste of hops.

Bottle. Pours orange with an off white head. Aroma is grapefruit and caramel malt. Medium body, very smooth and easy drinking. Flavor has earthy notes, as well as more grapefruity hops and caramel malt. Finishes on a dry grassy note. Alcohol is very well hidden. As others have said, a bit more malt would make this an excellent beer. Nonetheless, I drank it after a very long day and enjoyed it a lot. Exactly what I needed.

Bomber. Poured clear, coppery medium orange with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up rich, aged alcohol-laced caramels paired with earthy notes, graham cracker, and spices.. this grew on me as it approached room temperature, and I really liked it by the end. The flavor was strong with lightly-smoked carmel and toffee at the core.. sticky earthy bitterness joins up with peppery and floral notes at the edges, and some raw alcohol finds its way in here.. toasted spices and oak accent the warm finish nicely. Heavier-bodied with a few too many grainy residual sugars and a touch more warmth than I was looking for.. otherwise spicy and well-balanced. All in all a good’un!

Ho hum just a beer. Pured a watery amber color with good hear. Aroma was earthy and citrusy. Flavor was much the same just a plain beer nothing standing out at all.

22 oz. brown, bomber bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a brilliant orange color, with a thin, tan colored, sticky head. Aromas are of jasmine tea, sweet caramel malts, some toffee, palm sugar. Flavors are of strong malts, some Special B, earthy hops. Excellent body, rich and smooth. Flavors dance on your tongue, enticing you to drink more. Alcohol is dangerously well hidden. This is one smooth beer gang. Probably the best beer I’ve had from Southern Tier so far.

awesome looking translucent orange body with a small whitehead.i get nice webbing on the glass as the head sits.funny enough i get some "big red" gum type aromas out if it.along with a big malty backbone.the flavors blend up much of the same.along with some allspice and a tiny citrus hop finish.

Thanks to theRealBastard for this. Pours a burnt orange with an offwhite head. Aroma of white chocolate, tons of grass, slight pine, and maybe a mixture of hay, jasmine, and whatever those plants are that smell kinda meaty when in bloom. Slight caramel flavor and a bit of white chocolate before the hops take over with their grassy, floral, almost pumpkin sweetness and just a weird pungnency. Finishes with a bit of grapefruit and grass clippings. Medium bodied somewhat creamy texture, fairly light on the tongue and not boozy. 9.5%? Man, can’t tell. This beer needs a LOT more malt to really be good though.
