Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

Bottle. Clear amber/chestnut. Thin head. Glorious aroma. Hoppy and spicey. Not bad at all. Clean hoppy finish.

Bottle from State Line. Pours chill hazy dark straw, and didn’t go toward the red end of the spectrum at all. The aroma was hoppy, with some vinous fruit and caramel malt notes. The flavor reminded me a lot of Roxy Rolles, with a pronounced hop bite coupled with some malt and mangoey spices. The hops always seemed to have the forefront here, and I think more malt would have balanced this one out a bit. It does get a bit hot toward the end.

Not exactly red for a Red, more like a deep gold with a thin head. Quite floral in aroma with caramel malt. Rather muted in flavor for such a big beer, lightly fruity with a bit of mango. Clean, balanced and smooth for the alcohol but pretty boring.

22 oz bottle poured an orange amber in color with minimal noticeable carbination and a thin head of tan froth. aroma has floral hops, some musty caramel malt, orange peel, and some white pepper. hops presence is a little less than i would have thought with the dry hopping. flavor is very full with plenty of malts, caramel, and hops are more on the peppery side than fruited. has a thickness that coats the tongue and finishes with bitters and hops spice. the alcohol is a little too prominent but other than that it is a nice brew. not as good as the other southern tier brews i have tried.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a small white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus/floral hops, earthy, and notes of grapefruit. Flavor is sweet malts, pine, caramel sweetness, grapefruit and a touch of toffee with a bitter finish.

22 oz bomber from whole foods soho manhattan. pours a rich dark red with light, high head. the smell reminds me of a great sunday morning corned beef hash, though I don’t know why. very good aroma. crisp on the palate, the balance between malt, hops and alcohol is fantastic. overall, this is a great beer and worth trying at least once.

Bomber @ my gf’s place. Pours orange with a 2 finger puffy tan head. Nose is hoppy with a sweet resin tinge. Taste is sweet and malty with a hoppy edge. Overall pretty nice imperial red.

Poured from a large sized bottle into a trappist glass. A very clear, somewhat bright reddish-orange color, with a short-lived, foamy, white head. The aroma was particularly pleasant, a blend of caramel malt, touch of chocolate, and a citrus hop balance, with a touch of pine. Mostly bitter taste, but with a subdued sweetness present. The mouthfeel is very crisp and wet, with a lively finish, and only a slightly detectable kick. All in all, it’s a good, quality beer and found for a reasonable price.
