Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

Poured a deep red amber hue with a thick white head, some retention. Aroma was very hoppy with a slight caramel note too it. I did not notice any spice notes in the aroma as the description mentions. The flavor was a little sweeter then the aroma indicated, but was smoothly balanced out but the hops in the finish. I really wished there was a little more hops in the finish.

pours a deep heavy amber color with an off wihte head. The scent is very hoppy with some citrus, and carmel. Alcohol is very present in the taste with hints of hops, floral notes, citurs, malt and carmel coming through. An enjoyable ASA.

22oz bottle-pours a big red foamy off white head and copper color. Aroma is nice citrus hops-lemon/grapefruit, faint medium malt. Taste is very floral also spicy/earthy hops, secondary medium malt. Taste is 90 degree turn from aroma. Also while it can be called an imperial red, seems like some crossover with European IPA.

22oz from markgugs - thanks, Mark! I was expecting something rich and heavily malty, with the creamy and almost wee heavy-ish qualities. Instead, this is a lively and quite dry red with a flavorful hop profile and a bit of spice to back it up. Very smooth, very drinkable, and a nice minor variation on the style.

Big Red is a vermilion ale that’s very clear and quite sparkling. It wears a soft, thin, ecru blanket of head that has a couple of rainbow bubbles. Leaves excellent lacing. It has a homebrew whiff. The aroma is a little hop spice, sweet, sharp malt and... a bit of Play-do. In the mouth, it is velvety soft and smooth with a dry finish and a medium to full body... a bit of Plato. It is well-balanced. It’s constructed to feature the Hallertauer family with a round, semi-sweet base. Did I mention the dry finish? It’s simple and tasty!

Draft. Gold color. Lightly foamy 1/4" head. Not hazy. Pales relative to Unearthly but smooth and easy to drink. Sampled @ American Beer Fest in Boston
