Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

Amber orange with a moderate head, good lacing and retention. Aroma is floral spicy hops with caramel sweetness, a touch of chocolate. Medium bodied, fairly sweet finish. Doesn’t feel at all like 93 IBUs.

Amber pour with a fading tan head. Chewy aroma with loads of sweet caramel malt, peppery bread, and spicy hallertau hints. The flavor is also somewhat peppery with a chewy bread character, somewhat sweet and sticky. Doesn’t taste like 93 IBUs, but the hallertaus come through with only a hint in the finish. It could be all the chocolate and caramel malts that sweeten this thing up. I need more hop assertiveness, and less sweet malts in my ASAs.

Reddish amber, foamy pour. Slight carbonation, but it subsided rather quickly. Fairly floral, hoppy aroma, but the flavor did not match. Flavor was spicy, with a hint of pine needle. Detected a bit of an alcohol flavor as well. Palate was dry, but not overwhelmingly so. Nice, strong hoppy beer.

22 oz bomber shared with rebelbeerguy. Poured a watery looking clear red with a foamy white head. Very fruity aroma, strong pineapple and apple to on this one. Very dry on the palate, a little to dry for my taste. Strong bitter aftertaste, didn’t really think this one was that great.

17-May-07 Bomber. Medium sized, sticky white head of loose foam that laces in sheets. Beer is about the color of Lucille Ball’s hair and clear. Beautiful aromas in this; Hallertau is an interesting choice and it worked out great for the nose as the stuff is floral, fresh cut produce (peppers, greens), ginger, light peat. Wow, this is a sweet sniff! Flavor is decent, but not at all living up to the precedent of the aroma. Generic fruity with some melony focus up front, plum-like fruits across the middle with mild grassiness and some springtime notes like new chives and wet trees. The finish introduces a punch of alcohol that makes you pay for what had been, until then, a quite pleasant experience. Also in the finish is a nice mix of bitter twang and drawn out but simple earthy malts. These guys have a pretty solid lineup of slightly better than average stuff. Wish it wasn’t so expensive compared to other ’bomber options.’

Pours out a reddish amber with a thin one finger head. Aroma of floral hops with slight caramel and sweetness. Taste is spicy/floral hops as the backbone with some caramel lingering throughout. No sign of the high abv.

22 oz bottle. deep clear amber in color with a small to medium off white head. Aroma is pretty earthy, as well as spicy hops and alot of dry biscuity malts. Taste is earthy and spicy hops, dry biscuit malt and sweet caramel, with a moderate bitter finish. Interesting to use hallertau for this beer.
