Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

Fresh bomber. Clear orange/amber with a smallish head. Fair lacing. Aroma of spicy and floral hops, plus some caramel and biscuit. Nicely balanced between bitter and sweet. No alcohol taste. A fairly interesting brew, if you read the description. But I probably wouldn’t buy it again.

22 oz bottle, via moejuck. Pours a clear dark copper colored body under a half inch foamy beige head that left heavy lacing as it receded. The aroma is pretty well balanced, with lots of hops that are both piney and citrusy, and heavy toffee maltiness. Not much subtlety here. Flavor does have that distinct Hallertau hop flavor and bitterness reminiscent of some Pilsners at first, but then the sweetness of the malt erases any association with Pils shortly thereafter. Long lingering bitter finish. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a slightly thick texture and moderate fizzy carbonation. A little resiny stickiness on the finish. A pretty nice beer, intense flavors but not over the top.

Amber color. Some nice hop aroma. Good malt taste, even if the body has a medium strength, with a lot of light caramel and good hops; and of course a strong bitterness. A good American interpretation.
