Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

[1982-20090201] Bottle. Fruity hops aroma has lots of orange. Hazy, amber brown body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Lots of bitter orange skins and hoppy yeast in the flavour with mild candy hints. Bitter medium body. Tasty.

At the tasting session by Joes. A clear amber colored beer, with a small beige head. The aroma of hops with dark fruits and cognac. The taste is hoppy bitter with fruits like raisins, dry with a little chocolate. Notes of alcohol. The aftertaste is long bitter which moves over to sweet.

Mahogony colored beer with off-white head. Tons of malt here with some deep roasted ones used. Spicy hop presence which lastes through the finish. Sweet up front with a bitter intense finish.

Bottle. Pours a clear brown that borders on crimson, with a medium white head that falls of quickly with a little lacing left. Clean almost medicinal aroma that borders on metallic. Thin to medium bodied and malty with a bit of sweetness and toast. Long bitter finish. Had I not known this was a Southern Tier beer I’d have never have guessed it. Quite weak for their usual standards, I was rather disappointed.

Bottle. Reddish brown color. Red grapes juice in the mushy aroma. Initial red grapes juice followed by a firm oily, earthy flowery hopbitterness. Notes of leather and plastic and alcohol. Not unpleasant, but there are some odd flavors.
