Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

Clear red amber with good, foamy white head / Citrus and faint hop nose / Medium body with moderate malts and bitter finish / Flavors of sharp pineapple and pine, with undertones of burnt sugar and bitter finish / Flavor profile not very appealing - akward.

Orange/reddish pour with a thin head. Strong hoppy aroma. Full bodied, lots of carbonation. Flavor has a lot of maltiness though, toasted, earthy and sweet. Spicy hops towards the finish. Somewhat sweet aftertaste, some alcohol. Overall, it’s really good.

Thanks to theRealBastard for this. Pours a burnt orange with an offwhite head. Aroma of white chocolate, tons of grass, slight pine, and maybe a mixture of hay, jasmine, and whatever those plants are that smell kinda meaty when in bloom. Slight caramel flavor and a bit of white chocolate before the hops take over with their grassy, floral, almost pumpkin sweetness and just a weird pungnency. Finishes with a bit of grapefruit and grass clippings. Medium bodied somewhat creamy texture, fairly light on the tongue and not boozy. 9.5%? Man, can’t tell. This beer needs a LOT more malt to really be good though.

Bomber, 9.5% alcohol. Light copper-orange. Creamy head that almost fully diminishes, leaving decent lacing. Aroma of toasted malts, spicy, grassy hop character, caramel, peach, honey and a touch of alcohol vapor. Really gorgeous aroma, picking up things I cannot place. Medium bodied, watery texture, lacking in the malt department, nice hop flavor (i like hallertau) moderate bitterness finishes it up nicely.Alcohol nowhere to be found. Not real complex, smells better the it tastes to be honest. Not a whole lot to say. Its not bad and aside from the great aroma, its a bit boring. If the malts had some character, this would be a winner. Will see if it opens up as it warms. (not really)

22 oz. bottle. A clear copper pour with a thick light-tan head. A subtle floral aroma with hints of caramel and pepper. Medium-bodied and nicely balanced. Lots of caramel and roasty qualities throughout. Starts with a good deal of sweet caramel and finishes with a hoppy bitterness. The 9.5% ABV is very well-hidden.

Pours a nice bright copper with a fairly tall reddish tan head that has decent retention. Aroma is lots of caramel, sweet toast, wood, a little citrus, dried dates, and some light berry like fruit. Flavor is sweet, toasty, strawberry, toasy malt and nuts, light caramel malt. Citrus hops, herbal hops, straw and grassy hops round out the profile. Kind of strange for an ASA or Red/ Amber as far as body goes, thick and oily without much stickiness with an alcohol warmth. Finish is grainy and citrus with a sweet nutty fade. Only the second brew I have had from Southern Tier (both in their Imperial line) neither very good for their style. Not a good sign.

Poured red with a thick tan head. Good retention and lacing. Smells like sweet malts, caramel, grains, caramel and barley. Taste was smooth with a strong hop presense. Full mouthfeel but a bit overcarbonated. Overall a fine beer which I would have again.

22oz bottle: Clear, light copper color with small off white head. Aroma has fair amount of kilned malts (vienna-like) along with mild, sweet, slightly heabal, slightly citrusy hops and a hint of caramel. FLavor is somewhat malty, bit of nuttyness and caramel. Finish is mild, but with a stiff balancing bitterness.
