Commercial Description:
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

Bottled. Slightly hazy, red brown color, short head. Aroma of caramel malt, some fruit, hops. Bitter taste, bit sweet. Quite typical american strong ale, nothing special, but pretty ok.

Bottle. Ruby beer with an off-white head. Toasty, malty aroma. Malty, toasty, caramel flavor with grapefruit/pine hops. Medium-plus bodied. Malt lingers with grapefruit/pine and light spiciness. Nice balance.

LCBO lists this at 8%. Good malt nose with lots of citrus notes, light copper, pours a small tan head. Flavour has caramel, malt and full on orange. Medium bodied, balanced, sweet, with a pleasing bitterness. Top shelf!

Pours a clear amber with a medium sized beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, cherry, chocolate and some elderberry. Flavor is sweet, chocolate, grapefruit and light alcohol. Smooth texture, somewhat thin body for the style. Medium caramel sweet finish.

Bottle. Clear reddish amber body, dense off-white head with good retention and lacing, hoppy nose with alcohol. Body was sweet and malty with spicy hops and finishing bitterness. Does not hide alcohol particularly well.

Reddish amber out of the bottle with a thin off white head that shrank to a light dusting on the surface. Piney and floral hops in the nose that bordered on the minty. Hoppy beer with lots of pine, spruce, orange rind, and candied grapefruit peel. Nice bready malts underneath and an herbal spiciness. Finish is long and dry and you can feel the alcohol when you inhale.

Brilliant copper in colour, large white coloured head, excellent retention, great lacing. The aroma is very hoppy, lots of pine, fruity, some orange citrus, lots of caramel sweetness. The flavour has lots of caramel sweetness, the hops seem to be more muted in the flavour then in the aroma, still quite hoppy though, lots of pine, highly sweet. Big and chewy mouthfeel, medium body, high carbonation. Finishes long, hoppy and very sweet. I’m not sure balance was in mind when they made this one. Full out hops from start to finish.
