faroeviking (5431), The Autonomous Beer Republic, Faroe Islands Apr 26, 2007 Bottle. Amber colour. Sweet hoppy fruity and malty aroma. Flavour is sweet, fruity, malty, alcoholic and toastish. Sweet dry flavour.
mgermani (810), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jul 4, 2009 Pours a clear copper with a thin layer of foam and lots of lacing. Aroma is leafy and engaging, malty and boozy as well. Hops are so up-front in the taste that I didn’t realize they were the cause of the cat-piss dried jasmine flower flavour until I read the blurb on how they were using Hellertau, and then realized that might have been why, as I’ve never been a big fan of that varietal for that particular reason. But there certainly is enough of it to make this a very quaffable, refreshing beer. Moderate carbonation and a thin body. Quite drinkable, but that salty, urine-like dried jasmine sort of flavour is a bit off-putting. BuckeyeBoy (1451), Boise, Idaho, USA Jun 30, 2009 Bottle Pours out a amber topped with a small head. Aroma was nice lots of hops and a nice rich malt. Tast was very nice a good mix of bitter hops and a nice malt to balance it out. A tast one. patrick767 (1866), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 30, 2009 bottle - Pours dark amber with an off-white head. It smells of caramel malt and citrus hops. The flavor is a good balance of toasted caramel malt with moderately strong hops with citrus and grass notes. It’s medium to full bodied with the 9% abv buried in there somewhere. Nice brew. bigrond (980), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 28, 2009 I triede this beer because of who makes it. Southern Tier brews a nice beer. This one wasn’t one of my favorites but it was still pretty good. I’ll try it again tohugh, maybe it will grow on me. PorterPounder (3038), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 26, 2009 Greenville, SC - on tap at Barley’s Taproom. Dark copper pour with a nice white head that sticks around a while - good lacing. Sweet aroma of candied apples with a hint of vanilla. Flavor has some of the same vanilla notes with some mint, candied sugar and a hint of nuttiness in the back end. Sticky mouthfeel. A bit different, but enjoyable. pootzboy (970), Calgary/ Kitchener, Alberta, Canada Jun 17, 2009 Bomber:
Poured a deep amber, clear butt with a nice off white cap that lasted well enough considering the ABV%
Aroma was very nice; pungent roasty malts with plenty of fruity esters and hop earthiness.
Toasty-bready-toffee-fruity that’s the profile and it is well pronounced and executed.
A substantial ale, firm bodied, satisfying and warming. I wish I had a supply of this last winter. bp (410), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 17, 2009 Bottle: pours a dark orange with a thin but bubbly white head, hop and spice aroma, taste has some sweetness, malty, bitterness, medium body. Pretty solid but unspectacular. screigh (229), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 9, 2009 Pours more of a copper color than "big red". Very small white head with small bubbles. Malty aroma but not much presence. Flavor is way heavier than the appearance. Strong flavors. A lot of sweetness. You can get some hop flavor and a hop bitterness in the finish. A "creamy" mouthfeel which I have noticed in all their beers.
