COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspiration can sometimes be found in the strangest of places. This eccentric brew started with a single flower from a hop named Hallertau. The delicate and spicy aroma present in the flower has been responsible for generations of great beers. Hallertau hops are to a brewer what an old tractor is to a farmer: reliable. Big Red expresses the nobility of Hallertau by placing it at the forefront of this Imperial Ale. Pour it into a snifter. A swirl allows the spicy aromas to come forward as a taste to the lips reveals the complex balance between sweet malts and the bitterness of hops. Big Red’s ability to please is as dependable as your grandpa’s old tractor. Please consume wisely.

Deep red pour with a nice off white head. Aroma is some sweet malt, some spicy hop notes. Flavor is a little hoppy, but not overwhelming, a little spicy, a bit sweet. Alcohol is hidden well. Good beer.

Medium light beige head. Deep red body with wild tornadoes of carbonation. Roasty malty earthy taste with notes of dusty sun-heated wood and straw. Fantastic vividness. Dry-sweet strawy citric sugary taste with alcoholic resin notes. Soft, mild mouthfeel, with faint alcohol heat. Fullish body. Dry roasty resiny wooden aftertaste with caramel and orangey dusty notes. Nice, unsubtle. A bit much alcohol burn. (0.65l bottle, Vika wine monopoly, Oslo.)

Bottle from Vinmonopolet. Lovely fruity ale with raspberries and apples plus a subtle sourness to give a fine balance. Some warming in the background revealing the ABV.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a clear, deep coppery-red body with a medium, creamy white top which disappears rather quickly. Smell is very original, with red currants dominating the profile backed by undercurrents of vanilla, sweet cocoa, kiwi and hints of caramel. Very interesting. Taste is equally original; this is not your run-of-the-mill ale. Again, red currants are there but no longer dominant - there’s also a fair amount of bitter, grassy hops, vanilla and hints of raspberries and malty toffee. Semi-dry and quite bitter finish, balancing vaguely on the brink of too much for the rather light and drinkable body. Bonus points for inventiveness, and this is good stuff too.

$7 / 22oz bottle - Red ales are an odd brew. The only way I know I’m drinking a "red" is by its fragrant and pleasant aroma--it’s distinctive. Nice full mouth feel. Taste is clean and non-offensive, but nothing really going on here. Good beer, but this leaves with no reason for re-purchase.

Pours out a glassy, clear dull burnt orange brew with a so-so cap of not quite off white fuzz and random lacework. Strange aroma - cherries, raisins, maybe chocolate... I did buy this in November.. maybe I’ve waited too long? Cocoa in some form of reincarnation exists, roasty and caramel are there yet not overly strong, is this salty? What the F? Subdued warm citrus at mid bottle shows up behind the malts, there’s also some alcohol but I only find that near the end of the bottle. Tastewise this is somewhat tasty I guess... it’s pretty much a mess that I dig. Creamy, enough citrus - grapefruit, orange, lime. Caramel, choco, red apple, notable spice of some sort, weak alcohol, licorice? Goes back really smooth, nice carbonation, malty finish with lengthy milder pine lingerings.

Not a great beer at all, not terrible, I wouldnt buy it again. I was expecting substantially more. way too hot, not a whole lot going on. no real hop flavor, just boozy and thin, poured it out since i would have been loaded off that 22 by myself.

Copper red with a fluffy off white head. Earthy straw and caramel aroma and taste with good citrus notes throughout.
