Perfect dessert beer. The chocolate encompasses every part of the beer from beginning to end. It's there but not over the top. Very malty with a small hop presence. Very good.

Bottle. Black, black, black. If I took a bottle of Hershey’s and poured it in a glass, that is what this beer smells and tastes like. Delicious!

Chocolate, But this isn’t just chocolate in a light, subtle sort of way. This is thick, delicious chocolate that you could sit and enjoy for hours and hours. The mouth feel is thick, sticky, and viscous, with little carbonation. Alcohol warmth is powerful in this beer.

I usually am a fan of Southern Tier products but not Choklat. The chocolate flavor was too pungent and to make this beer worst, they added a crapton (yes a "crapton" is an actual unit of measurement) of hops.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A lifeless black, with an attractive medium brown head. Smell is great, of cocoa and malt. Taste is full of bitter cocoa, chocolate and a touh of hops.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Smells of cocoa and maybe a bit of vanilla. Pours dark black with a lighter chocolate tan head. Tastes upfront like chocolate milk (or melted chocolate). There is some bitterness on the palate in the middle. Ends with a darker chocolate finish. Tingling on the tip of tongue at the finish. This is a very good chocolate stout.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 20, 2014 Bottle from Yonkers, NY. Black with quickly disappearing head. Aroma is milk chocolate of the Belgian kind. Taste is the same at the front end, but bitterness on finish. Lacks complexity this one - nice but not life changing; definitely a good dessert stout - not too sweet but plenty of choc goodness coming through.

500 ml bottle from The Beer Store, Pompano Beach FL. Poured a nice black color with no light. Had a nice 1 finger, brown sugar head. Aroma was dominated by cocoa, tar and some hints of vanilla. Taste was a fantastic coco and some smokey malt. The palate is bitter chocolate, then in the middle of the palate is mellows out before hitting hard on the finish with dark chocolate. A really nice treat for sure.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours black with a thin mocha ring. The aroma is roasted burnt cocoa and dark rich chocolate. The taste follows suit. The palate has a rich, warm, velvet feel with a split second of alcohol tinge on the finish. Awesome unique stout. The best pure chocolate stout around.

3.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
For the aroma, I was expecting chocolate. This smells like expensive chocolate. Think Godiva, Bissingers, etc. Definitely dark chocolate, not milk. Also has hints of malt in the aroma that remind you that this is a beer, not a dessert. Appearance is plain - black with a medium tan head. The taste is chocolate up front, bitter in the middle, and more chocolate in the aftertaste. I have had very few beers with a 3-stage taste like this one. It really takes your tastebuds on a journey. Mouthfeel is very light, a bit disappointing. The palate is the only aspect of this beer that is lacking. I just crossed one more off the RB Top 50, and this one isn’t hard to find or crazy expensive like many of the other ones. I bought my 22 oz. bottle for about 8 bucks. Worth a try; I have not had anything like it, so it gets bonus points for originality.
