“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 9.6% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

Another one of my favorite beers. Its basically the best possible stout, combined with creme brulee whats not to love. It pours a deep black. It smells of fresh vanilla. It blends together cream, chocolate, sugar, oak, toffee, nuts, and malt in the perfect mix. Its a bit sweet but its supposed to be. Just amazing.

750ml bottle served in a snifter glass. Pours a clear dark brown color forming a medium creamy and thin bubbled beige head with medium retention and lots of small spotty lacings left in the glass. Very sweet nose. Strong notes of caramel and vanilla. Chocolate. Milky. Flowery hops. Taste follows the nose. Sweet upfront. Strong notes of caramel and vanilla. Chocolate, cappuccino coffee and roasted malts. Good persistent hops bitterness. Grassy and citrus hops profile. Heavy and molasses body. Medium to low carbonation. Grassy, caramelized and roasted aftertaste. Excellent drinkability. Unique beer. Southern Tier quality.

Pours a very dark brown with a minimal mocha head and spotty lacing. Aroma is of vanilla, and lots of it! Taste is sweet with the vanilla dominating and burnt sugar and molasses following. Solid bodied and creamy on the palate. Overall, very solid, yet sweet stout that will appeal to your sweet tooth.

Dessert, and then a slap. Pours inky with a quick light brown head. Nose is vanilla and poignant. The sip is very sweet and creamy for a moment, then the combination of vanilla, hops, alcohol, and roasted barley all come crashing in on the palate. Did I mention this stuff has vanilla in it? It’s interesting and will ultimately be a bit polarizing. I could have a small amount but I don’t think I could drink a whole bomber of it...too rich.

Poured from a bomber into a chalice on 03.20.15. A: Creme brulee. Sweet cream, vanilla, and caramelized sugar. A: 1 finger off white head that fades to a ring and some fluff. Black body with no red in the glass. T: Sweet cream, vanilla, and caramelized sugar dominate. Chocolate, bitter chocolate on the back end, woodiness, and marshmallow are subtle. P: Creamy smooth. Thin, but not watery. O: They really nailed the flavor. It is super, almost icky sweet, though. I should have shared the bottle because the sweetness wore on me.

Whoa, this one lives up to the name! Pours dark black with small tan head. The aroma, holy crap the aroma... Tons of creme soda and butterscotch. You won’t smell another beer like this. The taste is massive vanilla and bitter malts, the finish is big time butterscotch and toasted marshmellow. This beer is big on lactose, so understand that you’re drinking a sweet stout. It is quite sweet.

Old rating. Yeah, really really sweet. Dark pour. Creme brulee elements all there caramel, creamy, burnt sugar, vanilla, some coffee and chocolates. It is just so amazingly sweet its hard to drink more than a few sips. Maybe a dessert beer shared with several friends.
