“a stout of great contention” We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew. 9.6% abv • 25º plato • 195º L • 22 oz / 1/6 keg 2-row pale malt / dark caramel malt / vanilla bean / lactose sugar / kettle hops: columbus / aroma hops: horizon

I’m reading all the 4 and 5-point reviews and wondering if I drank the same beer. If you’ve ever wanted to tuck into a butterscotch Yankee Candle, this one’s for you. Also, all who claim this tastes/smells "exactly like a creme brulee" must never have had one. Maybe you’re thinking of butterscotch instant pudding? Only sweeter, if that’s possible.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2015 Bottle from Epsom Circle Market, Epsom, NH. Aroma is strongly caramel malt with mild burnt smell. Appearance is dark brown to black--almost completely opaque, with 1 finger off white head with fair retention. Taste is heavy sweet caramel. Palate is full bodied, thick without noticeable carbonation. Finish is sweet and long. Overall, this is a great dessert beer if you are looking for Creme Brulee. There isn’t much complexity here but that’s probably unfair to ask given how it’s advertised. Very good at what it does and props for achieving it with malts and not running it over a bed of caramel.

Aromas of burnt, sweet toffee; burnt sugar and butterscotch. Small, off-white head. Black or very dark brown head. Very sweet, hops seem swamped by the malt, though some moderate bitterness. Medium body, sticky texture; average carbonation; a long finish with sweet burnt sugar and some bitterness. Overall This is a pretty unusual beer - lots of burnt sugar and toffee. Personally it is a bit sweet for me and lacking in balance; still it is interesting.

Tap at luckys cypress. Pours black. Aroma of coffee, burnt sugar, cake. Taste is the same. Well named. Tastes like creme brulee. Very sweet, couldn’t do a whole bomber. Edit: Got tired of this the more I tasted it. Overly sweet. Typical imperial stout palate. Nice, unique.

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, thick black pour with tan head, aroma brought burnt sugar, caramel, toffee, sweet brownie, some slight coffee, roasted malt but it is very sweet smelling with more vanilla. Taste was all sugar, vanilla, dark chocolate burnt sugars into a bit of roast, slight smoky notes, finishing sweet. Maybe a few oz here and there, it is what the label says however.

Bomber shared. Pours dark brown with minimal head. Really strong sweet vanilla aroma. Taste is more malts with the vanilla at the end. Really well balanced and delicious!

This beer was great and everyone I was with loved it. It has a fantastic desert flavor to it and it’s balanced extremely well. The only downside was that this beer reminded me of an ill-inducing, overly-sweet, coffee like drink I had while working in the hospital a while back. It’s me not them.

This beer is made to be sipped and not drank. If you do that it is incredible.

Sweet, sugar and vanilla on the nose. The taste, the same applies. Very sweet beer. Bitter? No, but the sweetness so out any bitterness total. Much and fills the mouth a weak moment. Good beer but too sweet. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
