2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 hops99 (56) - Montana, USA - OCT 3, 2012
In bottle. Pours a golden color with a thin white head. Saison yeasty aroma, musty hay and honey. Tastes of lemon rind, cherry, and a little metallic quality. Mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. One of the better cherry beers i’ve had
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 daje (1291) - NORWAY - SEP 4, 2012
Bottle. Hazy golden body, medium white head. Aroma of fresh hops, cherries, spicy and some sourness. Taste is fruity with oak, cherries (and other berries I think), bread and yeast. Dry finish sweetened by berries.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 MPA (746) - Amager (form. Nørrebro&Aalborg), DENMARK - JUL 29, 2012
Bottle. Hazy golden with off white head. Spicy aroma with notes of cherries, yeast and dirt. Slightly salty flavour with some sweetness and a decent punch of bitterness. Very flowery and fruity flavour with caramel and syrup notes and palate. Nice and complex beer.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 JohnC (3000) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - JUL 23, 2012
Thanks to Ralph for sharing this at Woodshop 2012. A cherry saison is an interesting idea; however, the cherry flavor in this beer was barely present and it was a medicanal (cough drop?) cherry flavor.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Jethro6191 (331) - Indiana, USA - MAY 27, 2012
Pours hazy gold with a thin wispy white head. Cherry, banana, and barnyard aromas. Sweet spicy flavor with cherry, lemon, orange, and barnyard notes. Light and refreshing with high carbonation and a dry finish.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 ESBob (248) - Indiana, USA - FEB 19, 2012
Bomber. This beer is apparently retired, so not sure how old the bottle is. Pours a hazy amber orange with finger width white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is an acidic frutiness. Taste is initially tart, then sweet. Fruit notes abound, but the alcohol is apparent as well. Interesting, most likely better in the summer months.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 dogfishho (472) - Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA - FEB 14, 2012
I think the 2 score is generous. This stuff was disgustingly sweet. The cherry flavor was chemically and it felt as if they took a nearly flavorless saison and dumped in some artificial syrup or something. Yuck
1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 cakanator (452) - South Hadley, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 23, 2011
25oz bottle. What an awful idea. This is from notes, I don’t dare try this one now. Aromas were very light, some earth, but a chalky cherry note. Looks decent enough, which was probably the best part, medium golden hue. A tingling carbonation through the palate that is thin, the cherry is musty up front, like cherry soda aftertaste. There is no funk or anything that makes this a saison. Even the ABV is too high and cloys the palate with boozy syrupy finish. Retire please.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 cheeta (1181) - Langå, DENMARK - NOV 22, 2011
Heavy malty and acidic aroma. Average, frothy, white head. Fair lacing. Mostly diminishing longevity. Clear, orange body. Moderate bitter and acidic flavor. Light to medium palate.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 superspak (1480) - Michigan, USA - NOV 21, 2011
22 ounce bottle into tulip, no bottling date. This could be pretty old since it is retired now. Pours extremely hazy orange amber color with a fairly dense 2 finger off white head with good retention; that reduces to a thin lacing cap that lasts. Fair amount of lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of big tart cherries, apple, lemon zest, grass, candi sugar, spices, bread, and a bit of funkiness as well. Surprisingly nice aromas with good strength and balance. I like my saisons funky. Taste of big bread, pepper, spices, banana, wood, candi sugar, cherry, and some tart graininess in the back. No bitterness; with lingering notes of tart cherry, pepper, bread, and spices on the finish for a bit. The wheat malt is definitely more noticeable on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly creamy and slightly syrupy mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a warming on the finish noticed. Fairly smooth drinking, but this is still quite a sipper. This is not cloying surprisingly, but i would have liked a better flavor balance. A little difficult to drink at times because of the flavor balance. Overall a fairly enjoyable saison, but it needed better flavor balance with a bit more cherry in the taste. Overall I say it was worth a try.
