kkearn (689), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 7, 2008 22oz bottle, from Capone’s (Norristown, PA). Pours hazy golden, capped with a thin white head. Aromas of wheat, vanilla, oak, and a very faint touch of black cherry. Nice saison flavor; wheat, some earth and mild hops, along with some oak. I really don’t get much of a cherry flavor. Long, wheaty finish with some oak character. Overall, a fairly nice saison. I like the contribution of the oak.
jefcon (850), Arlington, Virginia, USA Oct 10, 2008 Hazy and orange-gold in the glass. I was expecting some sourness on the nose, some alcohol, or something out of the ordinary, but this beer has the nose of a very wheaty, very rustic saison that sports some heavy spice, too. There is just a hint of sweet perfume. I suppose you could call it cherry. Tasting is a whole different ballgame. The front end has a sweet, hop presence -- lemon, apricot -- some wood. Then just a little bit of sweet cherry hidden in there. Towards the end, the palate kind of falls apart, and the alcohol is rough and slick, the malts turn woodsy, and it finishes poorly. SuperDave70 (822), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Oct 5, 2008 Pours a hazy gold with a small fizzy head. Aroma of yeast, wheat, spice and cherries. Unfortunately, that doesn’t carry through to the flavor. The first couple sips were lots of alcohol, and not much else. After that, it did mellow out a bit and the other flavors came through. However, it’s not a great Saison on its own, and there isn’t enough cherry character to make up for it. Just ok. Ungstrup (11378), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 5, 2008 Bottled. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet wtih strong notes of cherries, and light notes of malt - not me. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of straw, hops, and quite a lot of cherries, leading to a slightly acidic, dry and woody finish. Weird - I don’t think the components fits together. jimbowood (737), Athens, Georgia, USA Oct 4, 2008 bottle. In a day of drain pours, this one takes the cake. Expecting a complex, full bodied Saison and I was let down. Not very good. DougShoemaker (2613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 2, 2008 Aroma of wheat?, lemon and yeast, hazy yellow, pours a tiny white head. Godd taste odf wheat?, yeast and lemon. Light bodied, refreshing. Good, but a Saison?
