COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“the ancients called it ‘food for the gods’“ The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more than a strange currency of the native peoples. Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle.

I was impressed by this one. Aroma of milk chocolate, perfectly balanced and pronounced, but not overwhelming. No head to speak of. Very smooth. This is a beer as close to chocolate milk as I’ve ever had. Amazing.

Bomber. Pours inky black with a medium collapsing tan head that leaves a ring. Aroma is super strong in choklat--in fact that’s all I smell. Taste is bittersweet and is like biting into a chocolate bar. Carbonation is medium and the body is full; mouthfeel is syrupy. Best chocolate beer ever.

This beer is a liquid swiss chocolate bar. It is not all that complex, but it is amazing in its oure expression. This is a desert beer... and a true treat.

AMAZING. Desert beer at it’s finest! What an amazing beer. Thick black beer with an amazing chocolate smell. First sip is strong chocolate and coffee. Thick and rich. Finishes with a nice hoppy note - which I really like. I’m really into Black IPAs and Imperial Stouts and this is about as good as it gets! Highly recommended!

From the bottle, pours black with a thin brown head. Wonderful aroma of chocolate, almost like liquid Godiva or Hershey’s syrup. Tastes like alcoholic chocolate milk. The syrup is the first flavor, followed by some alcohol, and lightly hoppy bitter towards the end. Not my all time favorite, but a very good beer.

Poured from a 25 oz. bottle into a tulip glass. While I’ve tasted plenty of imperial stouts and a number of chocolate stouts, this was my first venture into an "imperial chocolate". Poured a dark, black color with 1 finger of head. Strong presence of cocoa in the aroma - very pleasant. Taste is absolutely delicious! Very sweet with some bitterness - the strong notes of alcohol balance nicely with the dark chocolate and caramel. Aftertaste is similar to drinking chocolate milk. Can’t wait to have this one again!

Bottle. Pours a darker brown with not much head top looks oily. Tastes and smells of caramel, roasty, chocolate, alcohol, licorice, soy sauce, vanilla, clear, medium body, oily feel, soft carbonation, very much taste of chocolate with a hint of bitter finish. Reminds me of smell of hot coco mixed with coco puff cereal. Really nice could due with a little bit less bitter but awesome beer.

Pours Dark Mocha with nice fluffy head. Aroma of Root beer and Cocoa. Nice balance of Chocolate! Definitely lives up to it’s name without tasting too artificial. A+. Smooth finish with a hint of bitter cocoa. Delicious.
