GranvilleTim (465), Granville, Illinois, USA May 7, 2009 Nice dark pour with a brown head. Cocoa and chocolate arome. Very smooth sweet taste of cocoa and chocolate. Alcohol is not really noticeable until the beer begins to warm up. Leaves some dryness in the mouth along with the sweetness neepsntatties (280), Portland, Oregon, USA May 6, 2009 Just cracked open a bottle of this and forgot how good it is!! Colour... black with a thin tan head. Nose...a blend of sweet dark and milk chocolate. Palate... lightly carbonated, with lots o’ thick, sweet, dark chocolate from the front of the palate to the back. Slightly burnt character and lightly roasty with a very loooooong, sweet and, yes, chocolatey, finish. Food of the gods? Lucky bums! Theis (3617), Denmark May 5, 2009 #24 - Amerikaner Blind-Smagning 01-Maj-2009 hos Papsoe. Bottle. Clear high brown (red glow) - offwhite head. High cocoa, chocolate, burned, vinegar, a bit simple, sharpness, hoppiness, roasted, medium malty, high bitter chocolate & hoppy finish. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA May 4, 2009 Bottle courtesy of hellbilly, thanks Josh! Pours a deep brown black with a small creamy head that lasts and laces. Sweet aroma of tootsie rolls and a bit of roastiness. Flavor is nearly all chocolate. Definitely the chocolatiest of any chocolate brew I have tried. I think I could drink a lot of this stuff, especially with a plate of brownies on the side! GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA May 4, 2009 Damn. Aroma and taste is straight Hershey’s syrup. Hershey’s syrup chocolate milk was my favorite as a kid, and I’d like to pour a little milk in here to calm it down. It is very good, but a little too much. Would be better served in a smaller bottle. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA May 3, 2009 Thanks kiefdog for the share. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nose is lactose, roasted malt, and Hershey’s syrup. Flavor is same with one or two hops- like liquid chocolate with a bit of bitterness. Slightly boozy finish. Medium-bodied and very nice as the chocolate lingers. Almost so sweet it should be served in the small servings like a cordial- 12oz is a lot of this very sweet beer. satan165 (540), River Grove, Illinois, USA May 2, 2009 as mokah only has 7 ratings as of today, i am in the rare position of having tried that before this beer. and in summation, cutting this beer with jah-va was a bright idea. i came up with a few chcoclate analogies last night on mokah, and here they are just outrageous. this is to imperial stouts as NG belgian red is to fruit beers, and i am a fan of neither. i am however an ST fan, but there is no way this is their best beer. this is quite one dimensional: smells like chocolate (and little else), and flavor is barely balanced with a touch of roast and very mild (in comparison to the overwhelming cocoa notes) bitterness. all of this being said, this is a quite drinkable 11% which gives it some points back. it looks quite like chocolate milk as well, with a filthy stained brown head. mouthfeel is well, again chocolate: silky and full, very soft and thick. this makes me long for a very bitter heavily roasted imperial stout without this mess. just like the creme brulee stout, its hard to continue after a taste. i will trudge on, but never again. noncaloric (601), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 2, 2009 Thanks daknole. Pours black-brown with a modest beige head, no lace. Sweet chocolate aroma like tootsie roll candy. Flavor combines chocolate syrup sweetness with bitter roasted, almost burnt malt elements. Very full bodied on the palate, mild carbonation.
