3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 pintsize (1042) - Austin, Texas, USA - FEB 1, 2008
1-21-08 bottle.
At first, I enjoyed this overly chocolate beer - however, as the night progressed the beer became less appealing. Smells like Nestle powder and very similar to the Chocolate Donut Beer. Black with tan head and good spotty lacing. Creamy texture but can feel the warmth from the higer alcohol. Not a great imperial stout. A little to much chocolate for me overall. It has that rich decadent chocolate cake appeal at first and then it just becomes too much.

didn’t care for this, way too much chocolate flavor. Like drinking hershey chocolate syrup (which I do not care for)with some alcohol. chaulky. drain pour

This beer is simply amazing! The aroma, the flavor all scream chocolate and this one is worth seeking out! Recommended.

Bottle, thanks to Holdenn for sharing this, our southern tier deal is complete. Opaque black with medium dark brown head. Syrup Nestle Quick aroma with fresh baked brownies, overwhelmingly sweet. Once again that Nestle flavor, so sweet, slight hop bitterness though, could just be chocolate bitterness. Creamy like and full bodied. So sweet and chocolately, nice body, wierd burn.

Bottle opened in celebration of "Lost" season premiere. Pours a thick and dark brown with a little bit of a head that leaves just a trace as I walk up the stairs. Aromas are heavy of cocoa powder which drowns out any other subtleties that may or may not lurk within. After first sip I conclude that there is no other beer (at least among the contenders I have tried) that should dare use the word "chocolate" anywhere on its label. Flavor blossoms with heavy cocoa flavors, warms slightly of alcohol and then gives way to a chocolate milk like finish. Not much for complexity, but darn tasty.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 masonjer (608) - Holt, Michigan, USA - JAN 31, 2008
upon the first smell I am transported back to my high school lunch room. A carton of chocolate milk with a side of tots. Pure decadent milk chocolate (don’t worry, there is no potato essence). The first taste transports me to a totally different place. An upscale restaurant in downtown chicago with a perfeclty cooked filet. Rich decadent dark chocolate cake, laden with rum chocolate frosting. bitter and rich. This is by far the best chocolate stout I have ever had!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 RollinHard (1024) - Fort Worth, Texas, USA - JAN 29, 2008
Pours dark brown to black with a light tan head. Lightish looking for an imperial stout, but still black enough and the small head lasts a real long time. Aroma is a mixture of big chocolate, like the kind you’d find in a molten brownie, mint, light pine. Very interesting mix of chocolate and hops. Tastes of roast and coffee, followed by dark chocolate and a chocolate milk-like sweetness. Finishes with a nutty dark chocolate earthy hop bitterness, followed by a lingering cocoa aftertaste. Medium-heavy body, moderately creamy and slick. Only a vague warming sensation indicates any heat. It’s very chocolately and a nice big beer so basically I automatically love it. However, I still think Rogue’s Chocolate Stout is a better beer overall. Thanks to TheRealBastard for sending this!

UPDATED: FEB 15, 2009 Wow. What an incredibly chocolatey beer. Black with a decent brown head. Strong aroma of milk and dark chocolates. Flavor is semi-sweet chocolate with a darker, bitter dark chocolate finish. This may be the most chocolate character I’ve ever seen in a beer, so the name is definitely appropriate.

Strong milk chocolate aroma. Black color with a medium brown head. Mildy bitter chocolate taste with a lasting finish. Mild alcohol at the end. Thick and creamy palate.

Wow they are not lying when they talk about the chocolate here. Definetly the most chocolatey beer i’ve had, and it works for me. I couldnt even notice all that alcohol. This is just as good as dessert, and something I will absolutly drink more of.
