Wow they are not lying when they talk about the chocolate here. Definetly the most chocolatey beer iíve had, and it works for me. I couldnt even notice all that alcohol. This is just as good as dessert, and something I will absolutly drink more of.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
From a 22oz Bottle. Pours a mostly transparent, ruddy tinged dark brown color with a thin head of wispy light tan. Chocolate, hot cocoa aroma, thatís intensely chocolaty, but as such, kind of one-dimensional. It has a really clean bakerís chocolate nose that comes across like chocolate cake frosting. Not being a huge chocolate cake fan, I find it a bit dismissive personally, but I can see how this would be exciting to others. More complexity would be nice. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel that grows a bit thin with a strange, artificial astringency in the finish. Flavors of chocolate, but not much else. Light on the roast, but the sweetness is balanced by some herbal hop characters that lend minimal flavor, but adequate bitterness. Chocolate flavors a pretty good and this beer certainly delivers exactly what it promises, just nothing more.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap Maxís in Baltimore. Beautiful dark appearence with tan head. Nice silky smooth palate. Like the thickness. Taste is of typical imperial stout flavors but with a significant overlay of chocolate- but not rich deep complex chocolate. More like chocolate flavored cereal. I expected more.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This beer screams "dessert" right from the start. The cocoa aroma is so strong from start to finish, itís hard to think of another brew with comparable chocolate tones. It finishes clean, & has a thick, pleasant mouthfeel. I canít emphasize enough how thoroughly the cocoa permeates this brew. Perfect for after dinner or end of the night.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours dark brown/black, with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate, with maybe a malt and alcohol too. Flavor chocolate, malt, hops, and a little dark fruit. Kind of one dimensional, but for me, yet another winner from Southern Tier.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Just awesome. Heavy chocolate aroma and taste. Creamy mouthfeel. This would be one to put on the drink often list.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: FEB 17, 2012 On tap at Zenoís Pub - State College, PA. A heavily milk chocolate aroma, flowing with fresh bars and melted pearls. Alcohol blends in and it really glows of a mid-shelf chocolate liquer. This pattern of staying in this frame of chocolate-reduced alcohol maintains through the flavors. Itís a very nice, clean fresh 55% chocolate flavor, but it dominates the profile such that it doesnít integrate with the beer so well. Thereís little sense of chocolate coming from the malt. Dries out mid-palate, but itís mostly a sweetie. Cream. Thereís a palpable clash with hops in the final showing that makes me think twice about this effort. I like and appreciate this particular chocolate effort, but Iím not so sure itís working with the style well. And I just donít get a sense thereís a good beer behind all that chocolate and thatís what really matters.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours black with a thin brown head. Aroma is roasted malts and chocolate, lots of chocolate, smells like a chocolate bar. Taste is more of the good stuff, chocolate, slight bit of smoke and rounded out with some bitterness. Creamy texture, alcohol is noticeable as it warms. Good stuff.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Godiva, take notes! Get your finest bitter chocolate and shave off a piece for added chocolate bliss.
Bottle. Pours Deep Chocolate Brown. light chocolate tan head. Aroma is of Chocolate laced with vanilla giving and a bit of hops to make it all blend into a milky bitter chocolate smell. Taste... creamy, chocolatey, coo-coo for choklat! Itís what a chocolate stout should taste like. Creamy vanilla, chocolate... oh yeah... and a bit of roasted coffee with a decent hop bittering to balance with the chocolate. It starts with the creamy chocolate, goes to a mildly bitter chocolate, then coalesces into a fine bitter chocolate leaving your palate wanting more. Silky, luxuriant, smooth. Oh so good. One of the best chcolate stouts ever. THANK YOU GRYNDER!!

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 19, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours black with a fine tan head. Smells like milk chocolate and candy. Think tootsie roll. Medium body, much thinner than I expected. Tastes like chocolate milk with a little hint of roasted malt. This beer is way too over the top for me. Itís certainly not bad, but the sweetness and chocolate were a bit overdone.
