Commercial Description:
“the ancients called it ‘food for the gods’“ The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more than a strange currency of the native peoples. Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle.

Impressive chocolate stout. Lots of chocoalte malt, bittersweet chocolate, and vanilla hints in this. Some carmel, toffee, and baked cake taste. Not sure how they accomplished this. Very solid stout.

Bomber courtesy of indiapaleale. Pours a murky dark brown to black with one finger creamy toffee colored head that settles slowly. Aroma is a punch in the mouth of bittersweet chocolate and sweet chocolate syrup some fruity esters, hints of coffee, cream, vanilla, wood. Flavor is another punch of sweet and bittersweet chocolate, chocolate syrup, some light dark ripe fruity esters, hints of vanilla and cream. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing malt chocolate finish. If you want a TON of chocolate in your beer, this is the one to have.

Bottle at home. Pitch black coloured with a small beige head. Sweet and light roasted aroma dominated by chocolate with notes of coffee beans and vanilla. Sweet and roasted flavour of chocolate, coffee beans and vanilla with notes of hops and liquorice. Roasted and hoppy finish.

Pours a very dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is of nice roasted malt and a rich dark chocolate. Taste is very plesant of an expensive chocolate, slight bitterness, roasted malt, and just enough sweetness to not dominate it. This is a nice stout that is slightly different than your average stout.

A wonderful beer. Nose of chocolate truffles with some underlying roasted malts and bitterness. Pours almost black with some wonderful brown undertones and a nice brown head. Initial flavors of chocolate truffles followed by minimal roast and some bitterness most likely from the bitter sweet chocolate - go figure. A touch of hop bitterness in the finish as well. Smooth and nice, as it warmed it became very pleasant. This would get girls to take their clothes off for sure.

Bomber. Pours dark black brown, but not as dark as I expected. Thin tan head. Aroma is chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Flavor is super sweet chocolate, too sweet in my opinion. Very oily mouth feel, very malty with a bit of pine/hops bitterness. This is just too sweet for me.

Bomber thanks to Pantanap. Pours dark and opaque with a big tan head. Nose of chocolate, and more chocolate with a bit of alcohol. Taste is overwhelmingly chocolate, bitter and a bit alcoholic. Thick and chewy, you almost eat this rather than drink it. Overall a great beer if you’re a chocolate lover-like me! Weird thing is-this is better a bit cold-as it warms it thins out and the alcohol takes over. Points deducted for that "flaw".
