The aroma is simply chocolate. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. The flavor is darkish milk chocolate with quickly following toasted malt. But the chocolate is ever present. The barely noticeable heat suggests a cordial filled chocolate. The finish is pretty chocolate. Brewbie (220), New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Mar 5, 2009 dark black, with a nice tan head. big chocolate aroma, smells like Hersey’s dark chocolate. tastes like a chocolate covered cherry. the chocolate is huge in this, and for 11%, the alcohol taste is slight until it warms. Probably not something I’d have out at a bar but a great after dinner beer. j12601 (1215), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 4, 2009 On tap at the Golden Rail. Pours a jet black with a thick tan head. Smells like a melting chocolate bar, with a hint of perhaps a deep cherry note. Body is medium, but remarkably creamy. Slight cutting note in it… almost acidic, but not quite. Sort reminiscent (again) of a the slight alkali that balances out a good dark chocolate. Finishes with a nice bitter cocoa flavor. I have a feeling this is one of those few beers that if I come across it in a blind tasting I’ll be able to pick out… it’s just remarkably unique. Possibly a little heavy/novel with the chocolate, but that’s what makes it so good and interesting. The fact that somehow 11% is hidden in here is remarkable, as this is quite easy drinking… or sipping as the case may be, as this is something to be slow with and appreciate. Also had this side by side with the Rogue Chocolate Stout, and this just blows it away. DeputyAndy (69), New Jersey, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Mar 3, 2009 Pours like a typical stout, with no head. Smells exactly (i’m not kidding) like chocolate syrup. very sweet taste, possibly the best dessert beer. Again, tastes like thin chocolate milk without the slightest indication of alcohol. I literally had to check the bottle for the alcohol content and was floored when i found out it was 11%. Great beer. ditmier (1053), Boise, Idaho, USA

Aroma is remarkably reminiscent of Tootsie Rolls, along with some chocolate milk shake and vanilla bean. The first sip reveals a thick, luxurious palate with small-pearl carbonation; there is no denying this is a dessert beer! Flavor rolls on tongue with deep, rich, velvety chocolate. Dry, dark, milk, bakers . . . this beer is a chocolate lovers dream concoction. Finishes with just a touch of roasts, espresso, and dryness to keep things “balanced.” Have you ever had a molten chocolate lava cake? jredmond (1027), New Jersey, USA

Pours a body like coca cola - pitch black no head. Taste is syrupy, chocolate milkshake, with just a tad of roastiness in the finish. you could literally pour this over vanilla ice cream. grandet (478), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA
