elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Feb 28, 2009 ’09 bomber, shared with Alex. Pours dark coffee brown with a wispy brownish head. Aroma is remarkably reminiscent of Tootsie Rolls, along with some chocolate milk shake and vanilla bean. The first sip reveals a thick, luxurious palate with small-pearl carbonation; there is no denying this is a dessert beer! Flavor rolls on tongue with deep, rich, velvety chocolate. Dry, dark, milk, bakers . . . this beer is a chocolate lovers dream concoction. Finishes with just a touch of roasts, espresso, and dryness to keep things “balanced.” Have you ever had a molten chocolate lava cake? jredmond (1015), New Jersey, USA Feb 28, 2009 Updated: Jun 9, 2009SLIM DIDDLIEEES. Bottle. Smells like chocolate syrup. Pours a body like coca cola - pitch black no head. Taste is syrupy, chocolate milkshake, with just a tad of roastiness in the finish. you could literally pour this over vanilla ice cream. grandet (477), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 27, 2009 Bottle from Sam the beer man. Dark black pour with a small brown head. aroma is huge chocolate and some roasty malt. Taste is lots of chocolate and some bitterness. Def a sipper. Very good. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA Feb 25, 2009 Off tap at Beer Run Charlottesville. Big roast chocolate aroma. Very dark almost opaque with small white head. Roasty with chocolate and dark fruits. Medium body with full creamy mouthfeel. Finish is sweet with moderate bitterness, touch of warming, and lots of roast and chocolate. Excellent, best beer of the day. TearsforBeers (170), Ohio, USA Feb 24, 2009 Draft at EBF. Pours very dark opaque brown with a bit of tan head. The aroma is of profound chocolate. The flavor is similar to the aroma, just fantastic. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Overall, this is a wonderful beer, though perhaps not as complex as other imperials. carruthm (1110), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 23, 2009 Updated: Mar 13, 2009wonderfully deep chocolate taste and aroma. Usual dark dark brown color and little head. Hard to notice the strength. Great beer. esjaygee (1467), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Feb 22, 2009 From a bomber courtesy of Zin de Hey. Very dark brown with a mocha colored head that fades away moderately. First whiff reminds me of Hershey chocolate syrup. Beyond that there’s dark malts, vanilla and some mild alcohol. Taste is comprised of a dark chocolate-cocoa mix that finishes mildly bitter, the sweetness does come across mildly artificial. Mild roasted malt qualities and perhaps a touch of coffee also mix into the creamy palate. The alcohol is barely noticeable and at 11%, that’s a pretty good hide. TOSG55 (75), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA Feb 22, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown/black, with little head. Delicious aroma, dominated by sweet chocolate, malts, and warming alcohol. The sweet flavor is dominated by chocolate, with floral (hops), earthy, and vanilla notes also present. The alcohol is fairly well-masked, especially given the 11% ABV. Pleasant, creamy mouthfeel. This is the best chocolate stout that I’ve had, though it’s somewhat lacking in complexity for an imperial stout. Still quite excellent, especially as a dessert beer.
