Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jan 2, 2009 22oz bottle 9/18/08(Courtesy of Hopscotch during the CU/WVU throwdown). Pours a pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate and more chocolate. Taste is again chocolate and more chocolate. This full bodied brew is very well balanced. If you like chocolate then you will love this beer. Great brew. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 1, 2009 A special treat from BConley for New Years and my 900th rate. Pours thick and black, very oily with a thick tan head. The most wonderful chocolate bar aroma. Very complex and alluring, most people tasting this took extra time to take in the aroma. Less chocolate bar in the taste, very nice thick body. Was so sad to finish the bottle... MAP (1085), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Dec 31, 2008 It is a good thing that this bottle clearly states "A stout brewed with chocolate" because the name, and everything else about the beer, just left me guessing. The pour gave me a nice dense cream head. The aroma is possible the most chocolaty beer I can thing of. Yeah, this smells just like a slightly roasted, caramelized chocolate bar. Flavor is less chocolaty, but still strong with it. There is more of a sugary side of it, bringing a chewy and viscous mouthfeel before the final bitterness comes in to end the experience. As this warms it just gets more and more chocolate-tastic. It doesn’t come off as a beer with cocoa powder mixed in (Sam Adams Chocolate Bock anyone?) this tastes like a chocolate stout should. daknole (2801), Plantation, Florida, USA Dec 31, 2008 Black pour. Tan head. Aroma is nothing but a great dark bar of chocolate. Flavor follows suit with chocolate, sweetness and a hint of roasted malt. Silky and smooth. A winner. Can i get some more please?! Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Dec 31, 2008 Bomber. Pours a viscous black with a thick tan head. Chocolate nose, big time, but seems like a mix of sweet milk chocolate and bittersweet baking chocolate. Hints of anise. Velvet mouthfeel, absolutely decadent chocolate flavors - the nose didn’t lie - nice bitter bite late. Just a bit of the alcohol sneaks in, but not enough to detract. Delish, but why not in a smaller bottle? Much like a rich chocolate truffle, just a bit is more than enough to sate. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 30, 2008 Updated: Jan 24, 2009Sampled on draft at D’s in Regent Square this beer poured thick and black with a small brown head. The aroma was incredibly strong sweet chocolate syrup. The flavor was a marvelous blend of chocolate syrup, toasty malts, a touch of molasses and a hint of port wine. The finish was long sweet dark chocolate. Beergasm! WinoInTraining (104), Longmont, Colorado, USA Dec 29, 2008 Gorgeous! This nose could fool you melted hi-end belgian chocolate. Perfume, vanilla, floral elements. The best smelling choco stout I have ever tasted. The palate does not disappoint either. All of the aromas follow through on the tongue. Sophisticated, powerful, yet layered and elegant. Awesome dessert beer! JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Dec 27, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours pitch black with a half inch tan head. Aroma of hershey syrup with a tad bit of hop and yeast. Flavor of chocolate ganache with a somewhat dry hop finish. Tried this one last year and did not think it was sweet enough. They corrected that this year. Fantastic brew.
