COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“the ancients called it ‘food for the gods’“ The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more than a strange currency of the native peoples. Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle.

Huge whiff of chocolate and vanilla in the aroma. Creamy texture, sweet finish with some tiny hints of malts and spices. Full bodied. Fantastic desert. Shared this bomber with my wife, a full bomber of this sweetness might be a bit overpowering in one sitting. Thanks ruffian!

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks DSG. Black with tan head. HaShachar chocolate milk spread in the nose, some burnt malt, a little sour and very sweet chocolate in the mouth. Full body, very smooth, a little roasty finish.

Bottle pour. Black with rough beige head. Nose is yohoo. Blindfolded, would not finger this for beer. Taste is chocolate milk. Boozy, cherry liquor on the back end. Thought this would be too sweet, ended up being *almost* too sweet. Chalky mouth feel.

Pours a dark brownish/black with very little head. Aroma is fairly muted but there are hints of roasting, vanilla and a dark chocolate back note. Taste is AMAZING! Tastes like vanilla, slightly bitter and POW an explosion of chocolate. Palate is very well balanced. It builds as it warms in your mouth. Starts off with a thin mouthfeel, a bit bitter, some vanilla and then a monsoon of dark chocolate and cacao nibs. Stupendous palate!

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a dark brown close to black in color in both glasses. The lacing is super light and tries to cling but slides for the most part with a one finger off white foamy head in both glasses. The smell had roasted cocoa tones with light coffee comes through as well. The taste had a nice bitterness from the coffee combined nicely with the cocoa. I really like the aftertaste as it has a decent bitter cocoa/coffee combination coating my taste buds and has a lingering dry finish. On the palate, it sits about a medium in body that tries to have a decent sessionable aspect but it seems like I’m tending to sip this more. Carbonation is fairly smooth and is good for the style and for me. Overall, for the most part I really like this beer and actually thought it was a milk/sweet stout due to the sessionability aspect that comes out. However I see that it is an American Double/Imperial Stout and am thinking I’d love to have this again and preferably in the winter months, but honestly this isn’t exactly an American Double/Imperial Stout in my opinion.

Bottle from unknown via Jimena. Pours a rich, dark black with a slight bit of light brown head. Aroma rich and redolent of chocolate, like a liquid chocolate bar, with a hint of condensed milk as well. So sweet in the nose. Body thin and roasty, almost tangy. Finish somewhat abrupt, maybe a bit of resinous character.
