gpekar (221), Maryland, USA Dec 15, 2008 Poured almost black with a brown head. There was a strong chocolate aroma just like you were having a glass of chocolate milk. The beer was thick and creamy with full chocolate flavor. The beer was very smooth and had an initial sweetness of milk chocolate, but finished with a bit of bitterness like semi sweet choclate that lasted on the palate really well. The 11% alcohol was masked really well in this beer. Only a hint of alcohol was detected towards the finish with a mild bit of warmth. Excellent beer!!!!!!!!!! ilovedarkbeer (1326), Dallas, Texas, USA Dec 15, 2008 Almost all the way black pour with a nice medium sized light brown foamy head. Nose is chocolate, brownies, coffee, roasted malt, Mouthfeel is fairly viscous and smooth, with almost no burn at 11 percent. Taste is just liquid dark chocolate, coffee, fudge, and a bit of booze. Very nice. fiver29 (703), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Dec 14, 2008 On tap pours pitch black with very little head. Has a bittersweet chocolate aroma and sweetness like candy. Has a medium body. Flavor is sweet rich hersheys chocolate with some alcohol added. I don*t know how they do it, but this brewery makes crazy sweet beers that taste spot on to what they have brewed and this is no different. Nice job. HoPPyToNy (16), USA Dec 14, 2008 Pours a deep dark amber black. The smell is an overpowering aroma of dark chocolate. It pours a thick black, with about a finger of tan head. The taste has a touch of alcohol heat, and dark chocolate. Very drinkable though. A meal in a glass.
DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Dec 13, 2008 Updated: Dec 14, 2008 Aroma of dark chocolate, nuts, roasted malt and liquorice, completely black, held the glass up to a 60 watt bulb, no light passed, a firm medium sized cappuccino head, plenty of lace. Flavour has dark chocolate, roast malt, coffee, liquorice, brazil nuts, wood, alcohol is noted. Thick like melted chocolate, very well balanced, complex, oily, so bitter, alcohol has a fine burn, being a bomber and 11%, it should be slowly paced, but it is so fine I want to drink it quickly. Marvellous. DalzAle (473), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA Dec 12, 2008 Beer poured a deep brown color with a light brown head. Aroma was enticing from 2 feet away, excellent dark chocolate smell right off the bat. When smelled up close, overtones of vanilla were apparent. First sip released an intense bitter chocolate flavor with a sweet, slightly nutty aftertaste. One of Southern Tiers better offerings that Ive had so far. stankenk (130), Maplewood, Minnesota, USA Dec 11, 2008 Pours a deep dark brown with a tan head. The nose is very overpowering in chocolate however the are subtle hints of caramel and roasted malts. Comes across the palate a little thick and rather bitter like dark chocolate. This beer is amazing. If you see it buy it! Cause this one wont last long, and it sure dont last long in front of you either. LinusStick (1830), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 9, 2008 Updated: Jan 12, 2009WOW! Very near perfection. I didnt think I would rate another impy this high, but this beer is a class all its own. This is like alcoholic Hershey’s Syrup. Aroma was perfect. Strong dark chocolate. Pour was a beautiful deep dark brown/black with a one finger tan frothy head. Taste was all chocolate. Not much else here. Thick deep dark chocolate. Could use more carbonation but that’s OK. I gotta pick up some more bottles before its gone again
