Commercial Description:
“the ancients called it ‘food for the gods’“ The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more than a strange currency of the native peoples. Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle.

Bomber shared by my friend Chris- A deep opaque black motor oil pour with plenty of mocha froth and nice lace. Nose is socompletely dominated by freshly melted milk chocolate, that there might as well just be chocolate in the glass. Black coffee and anise make an appearance, but this is just so chocolatey. Tastes of bitter dark chocolate, coffee beans, some anise with a nice hop profile, leading to a sweet milk chocolatey finish that is creamy, and leaves no trace of the ABV whatsoever. I drank my serving in only a few minutes and was left wanting more. Excellent beer. In terms of a chocolate beer, I don’t think one could smell any better.

More mind games from Southern Tier. This is not a stout so much as it is a cold bottle of hot chocolate. Lots of lactose in it. You might think a marshmallow should be added if that is your thing. A dessert beer along the lines of the Creme Brule.

Bomber! . A dark brown red pour. Aroma of chocolat is huge. Flavor is just smooth rich chocolate with a hint of nice bitter and pleasant abv. Solid full mouthfeel and good carbonation, a bit too sticky. Very easy drinker just a hint of oddness at the end.

22 oz bottle. Pours very black with a small tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and heavy on the candy bars. Flavor is great. Like a liquid Three Musketeers with alcohol. The alcohol is not that noticeable for a beer that is 11 percent.

Poured almost black with a brown head. There was a strong chocolate aroma just like you were having a glass of chocolate milk. The beer was thick and creamy with full chocolate flavor. The beer was very smooth and had an initial sweetness of milk chocolate, but finished with a bit of bitterness like semi sweet choclate that lasted on the palate really well. The 11% alcohol was masked really well in this beer. Only a hint of alcohol was detected towards the finish with a mild bit of warmth. Excellent beer!!!!!!!

Almost all the way black pour with a nice medium sized light brown foamy head. Nose is chocolate, brownies, coffee, roasted malt, Mouthfeel is fairly viscous and smooth, with almost no burn at 11 percent. Taste is just liquid dark chocolate, coffee, fudge, and a bit of booze. Very nice.

On tap pours pitch black with very little head. Has a bittersweet chocolate aroma and sweetness like candy. Has a medium body. Flavor is sweet rich hersheys chocolate with some alcohol added. I don*t know how they do it, but this brewery makes crazy sweet beers that taste spot on to what they have brewed and this is no different. Nice job.
