taalhiker (179), Dayton, Ohio, USA Dec 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours a rich dark brown with decent tan head. Smells very sweet. HUGE chocolate flavor - actually too huge. Nothing subtle about this beer. One glass limit on this one - I appreciate the effort but other ST beers are better. RedXIII (127), Powell, Ohio, USA Dec 9, 2008 Updated: Dec 13, 2008I love imperial stout as much as the next man, but this was simply too much sweetness for me. Pours a muddy chocolate bar brown with no head. An aromatic and flavor assault of bitter-sweet chocolate. A hint of vanilla in the nose and some malt in the taste. No hop presense to speak of. Too much chocolate sweetness because it is absolutely overpowering and the 11% abv does nothing to nullify it. It sticks to your mouth like a thick stout should. I could only drink about 6 oz of the stuff. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Dec 7, 2008 Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of molasses, chocolate, roasted malts, caramel malts, and a little alcohol. Flavor is strong of dark, bitter chocolate, molasses, caramel and roasted malts. Slight warming on the finish but not too strong. mikalooch (158), , New Jersey, USA Dec 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours a nice dark and rich brown with a nice tan head. Smells sweet, like chocolate cake. Taste starts off very sweet, almost like eating a melted chocolate bar, with a very faint touch of malt and hops underneath. Finishes bitter dark chocolate. This one leaves a sticky film on your mouth, rich and very thick. Overall very good beer, but maybe a little too sweet for me. Very drinkable for 11% though. Maddog (231), Kettering, Ohio, USA Nov 30, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Clingman. Look, I love dark chocolate, and I love beer, but in an Imperial Stout, a hint of chocolate is all I need. This beer is impressive in every way, but the presence of chocolate is just too much. I am impressed with ST and their Blackwater Series, but Choklat is more chocolate than beer. Even its 11% body cannot stand up to this assault of sweetness. Just because a beer is big and expensive, doen’t mean it is beyond reproach. Lord knows I can appreciate a huge stout, but for my money, this one is just too sickly sweet. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Nov 29, 2008 Pour is a dark black with a small tan head. Aroma is super sweet chocolate like the best hot cocoa you have ever had in your life. Flavor is is again a super rich chocolate with maybe some roasted nuts toward the end. Very tasty and dangerously drinkable even at 11%. thornecb (1735), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Nov 27, 2008 Aged 1 year. Pours deep black with mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head recedes to hug rim. Dark chocolate, espresso, and vanilla aromas. Tingly cocoa upfront with rich chocolate liqueur and espresso in the finish. jake65 (1657), Williston, North Dakota, USA Nov 27, 2008 Bottle: Pours a thick, dark brown with a finger of tan head. Aroma is massive of chocolate. Just like sticking your face in a bottle of Hersheys! Flavor is another smattering of chocolate with some roasted malt. This isn’t a regular dark chocolate, but a sweet and creamy milk chocolate. ST is killin’ it with these specialty stouts! Thanks to Slob for hookin’ me up with this gem!
